Cill na Martra secure final berth

LAST week in Muskerry the Junior (B) football championship reached an exciting conclusion when Cill Na Martra defeated Naomh Aban by the narrowest of margins and the Muskerry board this week are endeavouring to make progress towards the completion of Junior (B) hurling.

The two semi-finals of The Oriel House Hotel Junior (B) Hurling Championship semi-finals are arranged for Saturday afternoon and hopefully they will both produce entertaining fare.

The raging hot favourites for outright victory in Junior (B) hurling since the season commenced Aghabullogue will be in action at Ballincollig and they expect to surmount the Gleann Na Laoi challenge. The latter will be no pushover however as they have recent championship victories to their credit over Blarney and Iveleary and it must be borne in mind that they contested last year's Junior (B) hurling championship final with Blarney.

Gleann Na Laoi took that final to a replay before they suffered defeat so Aghabullogue will take nothing for granted. The favourites are formidable participants however as they captured the title in 2011, participated in Junior (A) level for one year and they did not perform too badly and they are now back in the Junior (B) scene with some very sharp hurlers in their ranks.

Among the talent at their disposal are the Finnegan brothers, Pat and Kevin who will certainly make life uncomfortable for Gleann Na Laoi.

The later will give it their best shot with stalwart performers like the Cafferkey brothers, Michael and Pio, Ronan Desmond, Colm Horgan and Brian Kearney likely to be to the forefront of their effort.

The second Junior (B) hurling semi-final is listed for Ovens where Ballincollig and Cloughduv will be in action.

The former with their third team, who performed poorly in the league, got a boost when they secured a championship victory over Ballinora but they will have to improve further to cope with Cloughduv who are often front runners for Junior (B) hurling success.
