Churchtown beat Milford to claim JCHC title
McAuliffe Hurley's Junior C Hurling championship final
Churchtown took the McAuliffe Hurley's Junior C Hurling championship title at Dromina on Sunday when they had four points to spare over Milford.
The winners helped by an early goal held the lead all through. In the 3rd minute a good delivery by Shane Hedigan led to a well taken goal by Michael Doyle.
Milford were off target from a couple of early frees. Peter Crowley and Peter Kirwan exchanged a pointed free. Peter Kirwan with two more frees closed the gap to a point 1-1 to 0-3 after 14 minutes. Peter Crowley added another pointed free with Michael Doyle having his second goal in the 22nd minute 2-2 to 0-3.
Both sides exchanged pointed frees with the winners double scores in front at the break 2-4 to 0-5.
Both sides continued to swop points on the changeover. Defences were very solid with Churchtown moving 2-6 to 0-6 clear entering the final quarter. Peter Kirwan with another free followed by a goal by David Sheehan left just two points between the sides after 50 minutes play. Churchtown rallied well as the pressure came on.
They had three points in quick succession by Peter Crowley (2) and Darren Coleman 2-9 to 1-7. Peter Kirwan had two late points for Milford while Peter Crowley pointed a free that had four between the sides in the end.
John O'Donnell Board Chairman presented the cup to captain Martin O'Brien. Michael Doyle was 'man of the match.'
