Charleville fancied to win derby clash
County PIHC Round 1: Charleville v Kilworth, Sunday April 15, Kildorrery, 5pm
Perennial favourites Charleville, will head back into premier hurling championship action this weekend when they face up to Kilworth in Round 1 on Sunday afternoon.
Charleville have impressed all since they came up from junior a few years back before quickly storming into the premier division, but since then the club have failed to make what many thought would be the breakthrough into senior hurling.
Charleville have a host of wonderful players at their disposal with the likes of Cork star Darragh Fitzgibbon, Jack Buckley, Gavin Kelleher and Danny O'Flynn all likely to feature strongly this season.
Tim Hawe and keeper Cian Collins are another pair that will have a major say in what happens this year and all will be hoping to put the disappointment of 2017 behind them.
Fitzgibbon is clearly the star name on show however Charleville really do tick when O'Flynn is on song. The midfield general is the man that makes this side tick and after some serious injuries in recent years the talented hurler will hope to get back to his best this season and bring his side back to the business end of this grade.
Kilworth started well last season with a hugely impressive win over a Fermoy side that were one of the favourites to go all the way. All that early season promise ended in the next two games however and Kilworth went out to Fr O'Neills in Round 3. This is hardly an easy draw for Kilworth however the Avondhu men will feel they have nothing to lose and should go at their opponents with everything they have.
Noel McNamara, Kieran Walsh and Adrian Mannix may all have a say here however this season is a marathon not a sprint and Kilworth's season won't be defined by the result this weekend, whatever that result may be.
