AS the scoreline suggests Buttevant were always in control in their meeting with Mitchelstown in the O'Sullivan/Lewis Accountants (Mitchelstown) Under 21 BFC semi final at Castletownroche on Saturday.

The winners laid a platform for victory with an impressive first half display that helped them to a commanding lead at the interval. From their first attack on the changeover substitute David Walsh was on hand to score the games only goal and in the process it set them on their way to a final despite a gallant second half effort by Mitchelstown.

The opening stages saw the winners quick to gain supremacy in key sectors. Their forwards worked very well as a unit and at the end of the first quarter moved into a commanding 0-5 to no score lead when Sean Madigan (3) Adrian Noonan and Brian O'Shaughnessy had points.

As the half went on Mitchelstown made inroads with James Sheehan and Jason Cott kicking over two points in as many minutes by the 21st minute. Still it was Buttevant wind assisted that finished the half in style.

A quick free into the square was gathered by Miceal Broe who turned his marker to score a fine point in the 24th minute and it was followed by two more points courtesy of Sean Madigan and Brian O'Shaughnessy as they held a comfortable 0-8 to 0-2 lead at the break.

On the resumption the winners got off to the best possible start, from their first attack second half substitute David Walsh who was only on the field a matter of minutes made an immediate impact when he was on hand to score the only goal of the game after Brian O'Shaughnessy's initial shot at goal was saved on the line by the Mitchelstown keeper Liam Molan 1-8 to 0-2.

After making a number of positional switches at the interval a much improved Mitchelstown side took to the field in this half. They enjoyed the lions share of possession in this period and had points by key players Michael Walsh, James Sheehan and Jason Cott while they were also denied a goal scoring opportunity at the mid way stage when the Buttevant keeper Ronan Donovan made a great save from Jason Cott.

However, they were too far adrift to get right back into the tie and instead it was Buttevant that sealed victory with Seamus and Sean Madigan kicked over a point apiece in the last ten minutes.
