U-21 'B' Hurling C'ship semi-final
Blackwater Rovers 0-11 Buttevant 1-6
The opening stages saw the sides level at 1-0 to 0-3 at the end of the first quarter with Liam Cronin pointing three frees for the Ballyhooly/ Killavullen combination while Buttevant had their goal in the 11th minute when a puckout by keeper Calum Cole saw Tadgh Cullen and Adrian Noonan combine well to set up Anthony O'Sullivan for a well taken goal.
The remainder of the half was very much the same. The Rovers showed the greater urgency but they were unable to reflect their authority on the scoresheet. Points were traded over the next ten minutes by Darren Noonan (2) Sean Linehan and Peter Aherne before Blackwater Rovers hit the front again at the end of normal time when a Buttevant clearance was picked up by wing back Fintan Linehan who was on hand to score a long range point and give his side a 0-6 to 1-2 interval advantage.
On the changeover the game really came to life. Buttevant shaded matters for long periods with Sean Madigan and Anthony O'Sullivan featuring strongly in the half forward line. A period of early pressure resulted in points by Madigan, O'Sullivan and Billy O'Keeffe to edge ahead in the 34th minute 1-5 to 0-6.
For long periods of this half Buttevant showed the greater creativity and were denied two certain goals when a delivery by Sean Madigan saw Darren Quinn gain possession but his effort at goal went inches wide while on another occasion in the 47th minute Darren Noonan's effort at goal from a tight angle struck the post. Moments later Adrian Noonan with a well taken point moved Buttevant two clear 1-6 to 0-7.
Nevertheless, Blackwater Rovers with limited possession so far in this half made a great recovery in the closing stages with Liam Cronin, Sean Linehan, Eamon O'Reilly, Kevin Rice, Eoin Sheehan, Fintan Linehan and substitute Garry Lane finishing the game in a very determined manner.
The Rovers scored four unanswered points in the last six minutes courtesy of Liam Cronin and Sean Linehan and set them on their way to the final against Garrymae Gaels or Clyda Rovers despite Buttevant's best efforts late in the game to salvage extra time.
