Aghabullogue have goal win 'Town

Aghabullogue advanced in the County IFC following their opening round game with Mitchelstown on Sunday in Mallow. Strong wind and rain made for difficult conditions. Mitchelstown had the aid of the elements in the first half. They had the opening score a pointed free by Cathal O'Mahony. A foul on Shane Beston led to a pointed free by James Sheehan.

In the ninth minute Aghabullogue took the lead when Sean O'Sullivan placed David Thompson who goaled. Mitchelstown were back on terms a minute later with a pointed free by James Sheehan. 'Town' were in the ascendancy at this stage. A foul on Shane Beston produced a penalty that Cathal O'Mahony cracked to the net. David Thompson pointed a free for the Mid Cork side. Sean O'Sullivan with a very good point closed the gap after 17 minutes. Good play by Shane Beston led to a well taken point for Mitchesltown by Cathal O'Mahony. Impressive Matthew Bradley kept Aghabullogue in touch. Cathal O'Mahony soloed through and edged Mitchelstown two points clear. In the closing moments Sean O'Sullivan with a very good point gave Mitchelstown an interval lead 1-6 to 1-3.

For the second half Mitchelstown moved Shane Beston and Shane Cahill to midfield. Aghabullogue did well wind assisted. Their defence were solid and they worked the short passing to great effect. A foul on Evan O'Sullivan led to a pointed free by David Thompson. A sideline kick by Shane Tarrant picked out Sean O'Sullivan who soloed through but was denied by a very good save by Luke Hanna. In the 36th minute Shane Tarrant worked well for Matthew Bradley who kicked over. Two minutes later they were on level terms when David Thompson and Ian Barry Murphy worked a movement that saw Thompson take the return pass and point 1-6 each. Mitchelstown had their third wide of the second half in the 40th minute. The Muskerry side took the lead a minute later through Evan O'Sullivan after good play by Matthew Bradley.

Mitchelstown had their first score of the second half in the 52nd minute a pointed free by James Sheehan. The same player added another free two minutes later as 'Town' moved ahead 1-8 to 1-7. The decisive goal came when Sean O'Connell won a vital turnover and he placed Matthew Bradley who drew his marker and crossed to David Thompson who punched to the net. In injury time Jack Murphy added a point to secure the victory. Both sides were reduced to 14 players for separate incidents during the second half.
