Billy the lab secures his forever home
IT is in our nature to see a film or book end on a happy note and that is certainly the case for Billy the Labrador, who was featured in last week's Around Mallow column.
The lovable eight month old dog was found straying in early January in Mallow bearing all the hallmarks of hunger and neglect. Initially, a local family took him in and treated him but, due to various circumstances, were unable to keep him and so it was decided to contact the dog pound.
A Mallow lady from the southside, who is a household name when it comes to animal welfare but would rather remain annoymous, heard about the plight of Billy and 'adopted' him on a tempory basis and had him treated by a veterinary surgeon.
After three weeks, sadly the lady concerned was also unable to keep Billy due to health issues.
However, with the aid of word and mouth, Facebook and the Around Mallow column the lovable household pet has now secured a full time home with a family of animal lovers. And with tears and cheers he left for a new life last weekend.
This column salutes the nameless lady who remains heart broken but she can be assured of great rewards for her kindness and concern for Billy the Labrador.
