Maria Herlihy

Since the launch of Castlepook Wind Farm in Doneraile, the community fund has invested over €127,000 in 22 projects in the vicinity. The fourth round of its community fund is now about to come on stream and there is €42,000 available.

The funding is in place to support local organisations in the delivery of community projects and initiatives which fall within the remits of education and skills, health, safety and wellbeing. In addition, environment and habitat conservation, and culture and heritage along with recreation, sport and social inclusion.

Castlepook Wind Farm is a renewable energy project developed and operated by Castlepook Power DAC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of ESB.

The wind farm, which entered commercial operation in 2018, features 14 wind turbines with the combined ability to generate 33.3 MW which is enough to power over 20,000 homes.

Castlepook's Community Fund launched in 2016 and will operate annually for the lifetime of the wind farm.
