Bill Browne

Gardai are to prepare a file for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) following the seizure of a quantity of suspected cocaine in Ballincollig.

A man in his 20s was arrested after Gardaí from Gurranabraher discovered the suspected drugs, which have been sent for analysis, in a car that was stopped on the Ballincollig bypass shortly before midnight on Monday.

During the course of a search Gardaí discovered the suspected cocaine, with an estimated street value of €3,800.

The man, who is understood to come from the Ballincollig area, was detained at the scene under section four of the Criminal Justice Act (1984) and taken to Gurranabraher Garda station for questioning.

He was subsequently released without charge on Tuesday morning and Gardaí are now in the process of preparing a file for the DPP.
