Sports stars Aidan O'Mahony, Michelle Finn and Donnacha O'Connor put their shoulders to the wheel to launch the Sliabh Luachra Cycling Club Sportive last week at Teach Íosagáin in Rathmore.

The launch this year was dedicated to the memory of the late Willie Reen and Paud O'Leary, who were club members.

This hugely popular event will take place on Sunday, June 30 when participants will cycle the Cork/Kerry border, taking in some of the spectacular scenery of the region.

"We are delighted to have our local sporting heroes and friends of Sliabh Luachra - Aidan O'Mahony (Kerry), Donnacha O'Connor (Cork) and Michelle Finn (Irish Olympian) here to launch our event," organisers said.

"There is a route to suit all levels of fitness from the seasoned cyclist to the day tripper."

The Sliabh Luachra Sportive promises to be a fun day of cycling, with three options to choose from - 20km, 75km and 110km, with support vehicles on hand and refreshments supplied.

There will be raffle prizes and all proceeds are in aid of the Juvenile Cycling Club. Registration is at 8.15am and cycle begin at 9am.

All routes start in the town of Rathmore, passing some picturesque areas such as Millstreet Country Park, Mushera Mountain, Nadd, Banteer, Cullen and back to Rathmore.

Participants can enjoy some food and chat at the food stations situated along the routes.

The event will finish in Rathmore, guaranteeing a great atmosphere and superb facilities, including food, prizes, and entertainment. Check out their Facebook or Eventbrite pages for further information see:
