Music legends flock to the Lodge

THE Lodge Bar in Mallow has announced details of an exciting schedule of gigs taking place at the venue in the lead up to Christmas.

On Friday, November 22 the north Cork venue will play host to 'The Irish Bard' Finbar Furey for what promises to be an unforgettable night of song, music and story.

Still going strong after more than four decades in the business, Furey is still capable of holding an audience in the palm of his hand with his rare talent for music and his sparking wit.

As well as performing songs from his time with Furey's, Finbar will perform tracks from his critically acclaimed 2007 solo album No Farewell's, No Goodbye's.

On Saturday, December 6 Meteor award winners Ham Sandwich will play the Lodge as part of an Irish tour to promote their debut album Carry The Meek.

The gig will present Cork fans with a welcome opportunity to savour the unique atmosphere of a Ham Sandwich gig in the intimate surroundings of the Lodge.

The following night the legendary Miami Showbands will play the Lodge for what promises to be a magical night of nostalgia.

Three after playing an emotional reunion gig the band's original members Steve Travers, Des Lee and Ray Millar, have been joined by Barry Woods, Gerry Brown and Johnny Fean for an Irish tour which has rekindled interest in their music and helped gain a whole new generation of fans.

December 19 will see Dublin funksters Republic of Loose play the Mallow venue.

It has already been an amazing year for the band who kicked off 2008 with a performance of their single We People recorded with Sinead O'Connor at the annual Meteor Ireland Music Awards.

In May the band released their third album Vol IV;Johnny Pyro and the Dance of Evil, featuring guest vocals from Sinead O'Connor and US Hip-Hop star Styles P. The album has spent three months in the Irish charts and spawned two hit singles 'I Like Music' and 'The Steady Song'.

The festive line up will be completed on December 20 with a night in the company of Queen tribute act Flash Harry.
