Macroom Garda Station delayed
Deputy Aindrias Moynihan has criticised the slowness in delivering the new Macroom Garda Station.
Deputy Moynihan was commenting after receiving an update from the Minister for Justice via way of a parliamentary question on the matter. "Unfortunately, despite the site being acquired already for the Macroom project, we are still no further along the road to having a new station open," he said.
"This is, I believe, a direct result of tying in the Macroom project with the delivery of new stations in Clonmel and Sligo.
"The use of a Public Private Partnership (PPP) to deliver these three stations is a positive development. However, the failure to acquire sites for the stations in Clonmel and Sligo should not be allowed to slow down construction of the Macroom station.
"Minister Flanagan needs to work to speed up the delivery of the new station in Macroom. The local community have been waiting for this new station for some time, and so too have the Gardaí who are tasked with policing the local area."
