A MILLSTREET company will represent Ireland at the upcoming 2010 European Transport Company of the year awards in Amsterdam.

The awards are considered the Oscars of the transport and logistics industry with companies from across Europe competing.

K&L Deliveries, which is a Kerry member of TPN (The Pallet Network), has been in operation since 1986 when MD Gordon O'Keeffe and his wife Breda started off their business with two trucks. Now the company operates from a 60,000 foot square foot warehouse and have more than 35 trucks on the road.

Mr O'Keeffe said that Ireland's national and international merchandise trade is worth a staggering €148 billion per annum. "K&L and TPN play a huge role in providing the necessary support for such a crucial industry in Ireland, not to mention providing hundreds of jobs. These awards demonstrate how the transport and logistics industry has radically changed the way it operates."

The Millstreet company is the only company in the history of IRHA Road Transport awards to win the National Haulier of the year awards twice. This is K&L Deliveries' first venture into transport awards at European level, but Mr O'Keeffe said that he is "quietly confident," that the company will return victorious.

Owen Cooke, chairman of TPN, wished K&L Deliveries all the best in the awards. "K&L have always distinguished themselves, providing an efficient service to customers and network partners alike. We certainly hope that they bring back a European award to add to their growing Irish awards collection," he said. The award ceremony takes place in Amsterdam on February 11.
