Millstreet's Joanne O'Riordan won recognition for her contribution to people with disabilities at a ceremony in Japan.
The star of the No Limbs, No Limits documentary, Joanne accepted the Junior Chamber International's Outstanding Young Persons of the World accolade..
Ms O'Riordan was honoured in the category for contribution to children, world peace and/or human rights.
Shortlisted for the award by public vote, Joanne received almost half of the 26,000 online votes for the award which honours individuals who have contributed greatly to local and global communities.
In the presence of more than 600 guests from around the world, Joanne won admiration from the international gathering.
"Life is what you make of it, we all face obstacles in our lives, it's only a matter of overcoming them. Each and everyday, I live by the motto of what I fail at today I will overcome and conquer tomorrow," said Joanne.
