Hundreds turn up to the party for Mammy Reen's 100th birthday

HALE and hearty birthday girl Mrs Margaret Reen celebrated her 100th years of living this week, with a large gathering of family and friends. Margaret marked the milestone age at a never to be forgotton party in the Green Glens Complex, Millstreet on Monday night.

The 500-strong attendance was in party mood and included family members and friends who travelled from far and near to be with Margaret on the happy occasion that was full of reminiscences and celebration.

Born Margaret Kerrisk on June 7 in 1911 near Killarney, she led an active and varied life that took her from the Kingdom to Millstreet when she married her late husband, Frank, in 1940. The mother of seven children, Margaret adores her 34 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.

The Reen family contributed much to Millstreet life. Apart from running a pharmacy business, the Reen home was very much a house of welcome.

A montage of 150 photographs confirmed the closeness of her family and special events in her life over the past century. Card playing was an central part of Margaret's leisure time and it was no little wonder that her birthday cake was decorated with a suitable card theme in a salute to Mammy Reen.

Birthday proceedings opened with a special Mass celebratred by 92 year old cousin Fr Stephen White from San Antonio, Texas. The party continued into the evening and, at midnight, the venue erupted in celebration to acknoewledge the 100th birthday.

Margaret's secrets to a long healthy life is to keep active and live a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

Taking it all cooly, a gracious Margaret spoke of enjoying the wonderful day and thanked family and friends for their loyalty over the years.
