'Food rescue' event in Ballyvolane House

It is estimated that Irish households throw away up to one million tonnes of food each year, much of which could be easily avoided through careful management.

As part of a national awareness campaign to highlight the issue Castleyons & Bridesbridge Tidy Towns will host a 'food rescue' evening at Ballyvolane House on Friday, May 27 at 7pm.

The group is teaming up with Voice of Irish concern for the Environment (VOICE) for the event, which will feature the screening of 'Just Eat' a film about a couple who survived on discarded food for six-months.

This will be followed by two-course dinner made from food and drink that would otherwise have been heading for the bin.

Tickets for the evening are priced at €35, with proceeds going to the sensory gardens at Castlelyons National School and other Tidy Towns projects.

These are available from Ann Hegarty on 087 740 3616.
