Driving test waiting time fiasco
There are over 10,000 people in Cork waiting to do their driving test, with only 13 driving testers to do the job.
That is according to Deputy Aindrias Moynihan (FF) who said in Cork city there are 6,554 people waiting on a test and there are only seven testers based at the driving test centre.
He said: "The fact of the matter is that there are simply not enough testers in Cork or across the country to cope with the demand. This is completely unacceptable. The Cork waiting list would stretch westwards along the N22 past Macroom and on towards Carriaphooka Castle, while in Mallow it would run from the test centre half way to Banteer."
He said the Road Safety Authority has stated that it has recruited 52 new testers and has another 14 undergoing training, which would bring the number to 151 across the country.
But, he said there are other counties experiencing the same delay as Cork is experiencing.
He is now calling on the Transport Minister Shane Ross to intervene and reduce the amount of time that people are waiting for a driving test.
