€30K GRANT WILL HELP UPGRADE HALL
THE Kanturk and District Community Council has been granted €30,000 from a fund of just under €1 million that is being circulated to organisations throughout North Cork.

Chairperson Siobhan O'Neill (pictured) told The Corkman that they were "simply delighted" to get the money and it is hoped that works will commence over the summer. She said the Edel Quinn Hall has undergone renovations in the recent past, but the new works will mean that musicians will have better dressing room facilities. In addition, the Rockchapel branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann is to receive €10,000 to extend it Bruach na Carraige centre. Dromina Community Group will get €20,000 to develop a playground, and Dromina Community Council Ltd will get €11,000 to improve the community centre there.
Other beneficiaries include Dromina Village renewal who will get €8,000 to upgrade the approach to the village, and Millstreet Tidy Towns & Tourism Association will get €5,000 for the building of a timber walkway. Freemount GAA will get €5,000 for rewiring the playing field and dugouts. Milford GAA will also get €7,000 for a walkway around the GAA pitch and Ballyhoura Community Radio Ltd will get €4,000 for the provision of IT and digital recording equipment.
Mr Riordan said they had received a great response from the communities in the Cork catchment region. He did note that "big projects are gone for a while." "However, what this does prove is that there are many great communities out there," he said.
