Cork County Council has been nominated in seven categories in this year's Excellence in Local Government Awards.

The Excellence in Local Government Awards feature 16 categories, showcasing best practice in local government and recognising the skills, hard work, innovation and enthusiasm within local government.

The projects short-listed from Cork include Blackwater and creativity in the Active Communities category, Teen Talk for Health and Well-being, and Bridge to Masschallenge for promoting economic development.

Also included is Avoncore estate regeneration for Sustainable Environment, Cork County Library's 'A Sound Initiative' for Best Library Service, the West Cork Fit-Ups Theatre Festival for sustaining the arts and the Community fund Scheme for an outstanding initiative.

The Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Christopher O' Sullivan said the awards demonstrate the importance of local authority projects.

"To have seven council projects short-listed is a great achievement. It highlights the positive impact of these local projects that are bringing real and meaningful benefits to communities in Cork and recognises innovation in the council," he said.

The awards ceremony takes place on November 28 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Northwood, Santry.
