Cork weather: Met Éireann issues heavy rain warning

Coastal and mountainous areas in Cork are bracing for heavy rain on Monday night after a yellow weather warning was issued by Met Éireann.

According to the warning, which has also been issued for Galway, Mayo, Kerry and Waterford – people in these areas should expect ‘spells of heavy rain at times, heaviest in coastal and mountainous areas’.

The notice from Met Éireann also warned of possible ‘localised flooding’ and isolated thunderstorms.  The warning for Cork is valid from 6pm on Monday to midday on Tuesday while the warning for Kerry, Mayo and Galway extends until 10am on Tuesday.  The warning for Waterford runs from 10pm until 2pm on Tuesday. 

Small craft have also been warned of strong south to southwest winds which will reach Force 6 or higher on all Irish coasts and a yellow gale warning has been issued for Valentia to Slyne Head to Erris Head which will be valid until 6pm on Monday.
