Childers opts for Dublin constituency
Independent MEP Nessa Childers ended months of speculation this week with her announcement that she's decided to run for the Dublin constituency in the European elections this May.
Childers cited a lack of resources as her principal reason for not running in the large Ireland South constituency, which includes Cork, which took over her much of her former constituency of Ireland East.
"I feel there would be a very strong risk as I wouldn't have the resources as an Independent to campaign in either of the two "super constituencies" outside Dublin. Pundits have argued that she is equally taking a risk by running in Dublin, placing herself in direct competiton for seat with MEP Emer Costello, her former Labour Party colleague.
