The future of the GAA looks bright for the Charleville club judging by the number of medals that were presented to the various under age teams at the Juvenile social evening at the GAA Centre at Baker’s Lane on last Saturday night.

Charleville’s senior hurling panel member Danny O’Flynn was on hand to present over 250 medals to the teams, ranging from the under 14s to under 18 that were won in various competitions over the 2019 to 2022 seasons.

The medal presentations were delayed owing to the Covid restrictions in 2020 and 2021.

The club’s honorary secretary, Des O’Donnell, welcomed the capacity attendance to the centre for the event, and said they were marking the successes of the past seasons for Charleville. He thanked everybody who was involved with the club over those periods, the committee members and tam mentors for their time and commitment, and their sponsors, Lee’s Centra Stores and Lidl Charleville, for their contribution to the night’s function.

Danny O’Flynn then presented the medals, initially to the captains of the various teams, followed by the team members. The captains of the teams were as follows: U/12 hurling and football league and shield and cup, Ben Fenton and Charlie Collins, respectively. U/13: (2022) Div 1. League Cup: Senan Hanrahan. U/14: (2022) Div 3 Hurling Championship Shield: Billy Kiely. (2022) U/17 Div 1 Hurling Championship: Robert Carroll. (2019) U/16 Div 1. Hurling Championship: D.J. Collins. (2019) U/18 Hurling Championship Plate: Oran O’Connell. (2020) U/14 Div 1 Hurling League Cup: Kristian O’Gorman. (2020) U/16 Hurling League Cup: Kristian O’Gorman. (2021) U/18 Championship and league winners: Sean Bresnan.

Club players selected for Rebel Óg teams were: Donncha Watters, Zack Biggane, Kristian O’Gorman and D. J. Collins, and they received special trophies to mark their achievement.
