Banteer public water supply flowing again
Water supplies have restored to 1,500 customers in the Banteer area after the supply from Poulgorm was shut down on Sunday night due to cloudiness.
On Tuesday night at 7pm, water was restored and a new water source has been brought on line and this is being supplemented by water from other local schemes to supply Banteer and the surrounding regions.
According to an Irish Water spokesperson, approximately 1,500 customers are served by the Banteer supply. Irish Water and Cork County Council were able to maintain a supply to about one quarter of customers affected by feeding treated water directly into the network by tanker.
Bottled water was also distributed and on-street tankers were also deployed in Banteer and Rathcool to provide additional water supplies for the duration of the outage.
The spokesperson also said a decision was made to shut down the supply as a precautionary measure after the Banteer water source, which is a natural spring, recorded high turbidity (cloudiness). He confirmed that IW and CCC are currently investigating the reason for the change and samples have been taken at the source and are being analysed to determine why this may have occurred.
