€350,000 funding boost
SPORTING organisations in across Kanturk and Mallow will benefit to the tune of just shy of €350,000 funding announced this week.
Under the Sports Capital Programme 2014, €345,500 will make its way to eight sporting organisations, of which Churchtown GAA will get the lions share of €120,000.
Mallow Handball Club will see their coffers swell by €110,000 and Newmarket GAA club will get €50,000.
Other clubs which will benefit include Millstreet Community Council, which will get €25,000 and Newmarket Sports and Leisure Association are in line to get €15,000 while Banteer Community Sportsfield will get €12,000.
Castlemagner GAA field development will also get €11,000 and Mallow Camogie Club will get €2,500.
The programme which is funded from the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport is the main vehicle for supporting the development of sports facilities and the purchase of sports equipment.
Cllr John Paul O'Shea (Ind) said: " This funding will benefit greatly the many organisations who have worked extremely hard in recent months planning for such large infrastructural developments in their respective clubs and communities."
