THE Cullen GAA Club AGM was held Sunday, January 13, in the community centre.

Mass was celebrated by Fr. Jack Fitzgerald in a most beautiful and touching manner before the AGM, which was specially requested for three former players who died tragically in 2012, Pat Buckley, Donnagh Hickey and Don Murphy.

Tributes were paid to Michael Dineen who was a former secretary of the club.

Chairman Dan Dennehy gave a summary of the year's achievements on and off the field. Cullen had great success this year in the Nevin Cup competition after a 45- year lapse.

This was a very sweet victory for all involved.

Developments in the GAA grounds were praised, new steps around the field, new referee changing rooms and shower, ladies, disabled and gents toilets and machinery storage.

The new club room/meeting room has been completed. All this work is finished and paid for.

The secretary, Liam Hickey paid tribute to Dan Dennehy, Chairman, for his determination and hard work. He followed this with details of teams successes which included the Under-21s that reached the final of the 'A' competition only to be beaten by Millstreet after a tremendous game.

Great credit was given to those who got involved in different fundraising events including table quiz, golf classic and weekly lotto which is the biggest fundraiser for the club.

The secretary also paid tribute to the sellers. Dr. Casey was thanked for his presence at matches.

The election of new officers was presided over by Geoff O'Sullivan, President. Chairman Roger Casey, Vice chairman Denis O'Leary, Secretary Liam Hickey, Asst do, Josie Collins, Treasurer, Denis O'Connell, Assist do, Noel Twomey, PRO, Der O'Connor.

The new officers finalised details of GAA social to be held in Wallis Arms Hotel, Millstreet, on February 1, music by The Kelts, tickets € 25 each.


Knocknagree ladies football registration night Friday, February 1, in the community centre at 7pm.

Teams for 2013 are under- 8s, under10s, Uunder-12s, under-14s and under-16s.

New players from all areas are welcome.

If you have retired early from your playing career, why not start again? Anyone unable to attend this registration night are invited to contact Catherine ( 083) 3498778.

Also at Friday's event a medal presentation will commence at 7.30 while the Brendan Martin Cup, won by Cork senior ladies, will be on display, so patrons are advised to bring their cameras!

A pilgrimage is all set to depart for Medjugorje from Cork on Wednesday, September 25.

The group leader of this particular trip is Tom Dennehy.

The fee is € 689, anyone who pays in full by Friday, February 1, will get a € 100 reduction.
