Tidy hero Paddy honoured with crystal 'ash tray'
The Mallow Tidy Towns AGM was held last Tuesday night at their HQ in Hibernian Way and was well attended.
The committee for 2014 was elected and the officers are as follows: Mary Cashman and Brendan O'Shea (Joint Chairpersons), Niall O'Keeffe and Mary Ware (Joint Treasurers), Anne O'Neill (Secretary), Paudy McAuliffe ( PRO /Assistant Secretary), Charles Mortell (Heritage Officer) and Tricia Kennedy (Schools Liason Officer).
A very special presentation was made to Paddy Whelan on the occasion of his retirement from the committee.
His tireless work for the Tidy Towns down through the years as a volunteer and committee member was marked with a gift of a crystal glassware bowl - christened 'Paddy's ash tray!'.
Paddy's selfless work on behalf of the committee was remembered with fondness and he was wished every good fortune for the future.
A request for assistance was made at the meeting for anyone with a background in, or knowledge of, Wildlife & Natural amenities, Waste Minimisation & Recycling and Conservation & Preservation of buildings to come forward in an advisory role to the committee.
These are very important areas of the Tidy Towns competition that the group are targeting for next years application and all offers of help would be gratefully accepted.
The early risers group continue to do invaluable work from 8-9am every Saturday morning, collecting litter in the carparks and laneways off Main Street. They meet at HQ in Hibernian Way, at 8am and return for a cup of tea and a chat afterwards at 9am. What better way to start your weekend than to offer an hour of your time to your town.
The 10.30am group meet at The Roundabout Inn Car Park. Please find MTTon Facebook, check the website (www.mallowtidytowns.weebly.com) for photos and updates or email email@example.com.
