Green Glens extends welcome to World Games

Millstreet rolls out the red carpet to welcome the 30th World Team Mounted Games Championships at the Green Glens Complex from July 12-16.

The staging offers a spectacular event that provides opportunities for riders of all ages to enjoy games on horseback. And the town and community plans to play its part in the successful hosting with teams from 18 countries participating with 30 teams bringing 150 ponies.

Mounted games operate on ponies up to a height of 15hh, a true test of horsemanship, skill and speed. The games are exhilarating to watch and is a spectacle at many top international shows, including the Royal Windsor Horse Show, Horse of the Year Show and the Dublin Horse Show.

It requires a high degree of athletic ability, good riding skills, hand-eye co-ordination, determination, perseverance and a competitive spirit though requiring an ability to work together with other riders and a willingness to help one another.

The IMGA World Team Championships are held annually in a different member country. The Millstreet staging follows Kentucky (USA) from last year.

An opening parade through Millstreet on the eve of the international event promises to be breathtaking, each country behind their own national flag with a viewing stand sited in the Town Square outside the Wallis Arms Hotel.

Apart from activity in the Green Glens Complex, Millstreet organisers plans to put together walks, tours and diverse activity to capture the interest of visiting nations.
