Fundraising continues for new astro turf

FOLLOWING a detailed tender evaluation process, All Time Cosey Homes from Millstreet have been appointed as main contractor for the new astro-turf pitch in Newmarket.

Independent Consultants O'Carroll Fitzgerald evaluated all tenders and recommended the appointment of John Buckley, All Time Cosey Homes.

Work is expected to commence in a few weeks with All Time Cosey Homes being responsible for the appointment of various subcontractors for the project.

The new 55m x 30m astro turf pitch includes Shockpad (helps injury prevention) and synthetic carpet surfacing. The pitch will be a state of the art facility available to the wider community of Newmarket and beyond.

It will be large enough to incorporate two games at any one time.

The new facility will be of immeasurable benefit to schools, clubs, local sporting organisations and individuals.

At a cost of €210,000 approx, Newmarket Sports & Leisure secured IRD funding of €150,000, leaving a shortfall of €60,000 approx. Thanks to the generosity of the local community, in excess of €12,000 has already been raised.

People can continue to support the venture in various ways, including: taking out life membership of Newmarket adult GAA Club -€500; join the lotto, costing €170 for two years, €85 for one year and €45 for six months; or donate any amount of your choice through an account in Newmarket Credit Union.

Newmarket Sports & Leisure's next fundraising initiative will shortly commence, promoting a night at the dogs in March. This should prove a great family occasion and for a good cause.

This is the first step in developing new sports and leisure facilities for the community of Newmarket. In conjunction with Newmarket Community Development, a feasibility study is presently underway to assess the needs within the community and develop a five year plan for Newmarket.

250 surveys have been completed as part of this study.
