Fr Hennessy enjoys Golden Jubilee Mass

Mitchelstown Matters

Well-known local priest Fr Pat Hennessy celebrated his Golden Jubilee at a special Mass in the Parish Church, Mitchelstown, on Tuesday evening.

Fr Pat was a member of the class of 1969, and he was joined by family and friends for a con-celebrated Mass which was followed by a very enjoyable social evening in Forrest Hall, Market Square, Mitchelstown.

From a family of five (May, Rose, Nell and Susan), Fr Pat was the oldest born to David and Bridie Hennessy.

He was ordained in St John's Cathedral, Waterford, on June 8, 1969.

His first posting was to the Diocese of Motherwell in Scotland.

He later spent 11 years in Peru at a time when priests stood constant threat from terrorist group Shining Light.

Fr Pat was delighted to be back in Mitchelstown, which he stated always has a special place in his heart.

Classmate Fr Sean Dunne stated Fr Pat was "a special friend who had never lost touch with Mitchelstown".

Fr Pat and his family were very grateful to the people of Mitchelstown, especially those who did a wonderful job in organising and hosting the reception in Forrest Hall.

Local Church Sacristan Pat McEvoy and Fr Pat cut a Golden Jubilee cake, which was specially prepared by Kildorrery baker Trudy O'Regan.
