Kanturk return to action in the Cork County Premier Intermediate Football Championship with a vital game against Macroom at Cullen on Saturday 25th September with a 5.30pm start.

Both sides met in the group stages of championship 2020 and Kanturk goaled in injury time to take the spoils. A similar result on this occasion would put Kanturk with one foot in the knockout stages.

Honours even in Senior Hurling

Kanturk and Blarney shared the spoils on Friday last at Mallow in the Senior ‘A’ Hurling championship.

It was an exciting tie with Blarney ahead 0-10 to 0-08 at the interval. A Kanturk goal in the early stages of the second half set them on the way to a four point lead and it looked as if they might secure victory but Blarney battled back and both sides had chances of stealing the win in the closing stages but a share of the spoils was a fair result on a final score line of Kanturk 1-12 Blarney 0-15.

A feature of the game was the number of wides over the hour with Kanturk registering 15 and Blarney 16. Playing hurling under lights is not ideal and surely when night games are fixed consideration must be to focus more on football than hurling for those games.

In the Duhallow Junior A Hurling championship at Newmarket on Saturday last Millstreet pulled away from Kanturk in the final quarter to defeat our side by 0-11 to 2-22.

Attention turns to football on this Sunday 26th September with Kanturk facing Cullen at Boherbue at 12 noon.

In Underage affairs the Kanturk/Banteer combination at U17 hurling lost out to St Catherines at Ballynoe during the week 1-13 to 5-23.

Attention turns to football for the same combination on this Saturday with an away tie at Glanmire with a 12 noon start while our U15 footballers face a home semi-final against Banteer on Thursday 23rd September 6.15pm.

In under 13 football our side lost out to Buttevant in the final at Freemount on Saturday last 0-09 to 4-14.

Fixtures: Thursday 23rd September at Kanturk, RON U15 D3FC SF, Wolfe Tones (Kanturk) v Banteer 6.15pm. Saturday 25th September at Glanmire, RON U17 D2FC, Wolfe Tones (Ktk)/Banteer v Glanmire 2 at 12 noon. Saturday 25th September at Cullen, Cork PIFC, Kanturk v Macroom 5.30pm. Sunday 26th September at Boherbue, Duh J’A’FC, Kanturk v Cullen 12 noon.
