District news: Kilbrin and Freemount

Kilbrin - Astro Turf and Hurling Wall Opening & Presentation Night: The official opening of the Astro Turf and Hurling Wall will take place on this Friday evening, January 4 at 7pm, when Cork County Board Chairperson Tracey Kennedy will perform the opening.

Presentations will be made to the successful 1968 Crokes Rovers and 1978 Kilbrin teams, with the Hall of Fame award also being made on the night. The team of '68 won the Duhallow U21 Hurling Championship with players from Castlemagner involved, the 1978 team was the first Duhallow Junior Hurling Kilbrin team to win the junior hurling championship.Christmas Ceremonies.The church looked absolutely beautiful for the ceremonies, we thank everyone who helped in any way for decorating the church, and those who put up the crib, and those who cleaned the church.There was a very large attendance at the christmas eve vigil mass, it was great to see so many turning up.

Playground

Kilbrin Community Centre

Roof renovations will begin in the new year. This will cause as little disruption as possible and we apologise in advance for any inconvenience.

Duhallow response group

A new response group is now starting up in Duhallow. Anyone interested in participating please contact Timmy Noonan or anyone in the community council for further information.

Freemount

45 Drive

The weekly 45 Drive was well attended on Sunday night, December 23.

The best Ladies team was :-Joan Dillane, and Rita Geary, Milford. The Gents prize was won by:-1 Jim Murphy, and Neilie O'Connor, Freemount, 2 Martin Flynn, Feohanagh and Michael O'Callaghan, Freemount..The Mixed Prize was won by:-1 Tim Broderick, and Mary Noonan, Freemount. 2 Pat and Maureen O'Connor, Churchtown. Table Prize was won by: Daithí Burke, Meelin and Helen Sheehy,Tullylease.The following won Raffle prizes :-1 Jack Murphy, Freemount. 2 Michael O'Callaghan, Freemount. 3 Ben O'Sullivan, Freemount. 4 Con O'Neill, Newmarket.5 P.J.O'Sullivan, Freemount.6 Maureen Vaughan, Kanturk. 7 Daithí Burke , Meelin. 8 Mary Broderick, Freemount. A lovely tea and "soonies"was prepared by Noreen Murphy, Mary Noonan and Mary Broderick to the delight of all present.

First Prize went to 1 Con Foley, and Tim Ahern, Freemount.Best Ladies teams were :-1 Maureen Vaughan, and Eileen O'Sullivan, Kanturk 2 Mary Noonan, Freemount and Joan Buckley, Liscarroll. Best Gents team was;- Michael O'Callaghan, Freemount and Martin Flynn, Feohanagh. Best Mixed team was ;Pat and Maureen O'Connor, Churchtown.The table prize was won by :-John and Kathleen, Twomey, Meelin. The following won raffle prizes:-1 Con Foley, Freemount 2 Kate O'Brien, Newmarket.3Ted Murphy, Newmarket.4 Jim Murphy, Freemount. 5 Eileen O'Sullivan, Kanturk. 6 Helen Sheehy, Tullylease.

The next 45 drive will be on this Sunday night January 6th.2019 at 8.pm.sharp.!! See you all on Sunday night and bring a friend..You can be on the road home at 10.pm. Don't forget the new starting time of 8.pm.during Winter time .

Around the Fireside

The next programme of Around the Fireside will be broadcast on C103 Local Radio on Monday night next January 7th.2019 ,we have a group called The big Tree and also Dan Noonan doing the honours at 10.06pm.. This is another great programme of Around the Fireside not to be missed. Make sure you tune in on Monday night, January 7.

Saint Michael's Church, Freemount

Mass on Sunday morning at 10.30am. as usual.

Mass and Holy Hour on Monday night at 8pm.

Mass on Tuesday Morning at 9.30am.

Mass and all devotions at St. Michael's Church in Freemount are now available on the internet. The web address is http://www.myipstream.com/freemount.html. This will be especially welcome for all people who are housebound or away from home.Please pass the details onto your friends.

St. Michael's Room is now available to parents who would like to bring young children to Sunday Mass.This room is located behind the Altar

Free smoke alarms: Free Smoke alarms are available to elderly and vulnerable residents from Freemount Community Alert (compliments of Cork County Fire Service). Contact any member of Community Alert on 083/4589222 to apply and for collection of your free alarm.

Thursday club

The first get together of The Thursday Club for 2019 will take place in Cois Abhann on Thursday, January 10, at 2pm. Everybody welcome. As usual, we say no birth cert. needed just come along on the day.

Our new music programme commences on Wednesday January 16th.when registration of all pupils for The Spring session will take place in The Heritage Centre .
