Connie Bowles remembered at weekend
A weekend of events in Charleville commemorated the life of local man Connie Bowles on the first anniversary of his death from cancer.
The late Connie was an extremely popular individual in the community, particularly among the soccer fraternity, where he was a prominent player with the Charleville Club. He was also a keen drama enthusiast and acted with locally based Cool Collective Company for a period and figured in many of their performances.
The memorial weekend was organised by his widow, Brenda, and a committee that got together to raise funds for Marymount Hospice.
The weekend started with a coffee morning at Geary's Bar on Friday followed by a soccer friendly game between two teams drawn from the local club, some of whom were former team mates of Connie's. The weekend ended with a concert featuring local musicians and singers at the Schoolyard Theatre on Sunday night.
Brenda thanks everybody who supported the events and all the people who helped to organise the weekend, which was a fitting tribute to Connie's memory, while at the same time raising money for a very deserving cause.
