Community news: Newmarket

Bruach na Carraige, Rockchapel, will hold a special Christmas Seisiún on Friday, January 4, at 8pm.

Ceoltóirí Sliabh Luachra's latest DVD, 'Music from the Manuscripts', will be available on the night.

This DVD contains some of Ireland's oldest music from our most famous collectors, including local manuscripts from Dave Dan Curtin from Rockchapel; from his father, Dan Curtin, whose manuscripts go back to before 1850 and contain an interestingly older layer of Sliabh Luachra music that had vanished from the tradition.

It also contains music from the manuscripts of Dave Leahy from Mountcollins, who passed away in 1907.

Couch to 5k resumes on January 14

Couch to 5k recommences at Glash Track on Monday, January 14, at 7.30pm.

Beginners are welcome, and you can start easy and work your way up to 5k.

It will continue each Monday and Wednesday night.

Also, fitness classes with Sheila will return in Glash Community Hall on Saturday, January 5, at 8am and will continue each Saturday morning.

A thank you for used stamps

A huge thank you goes out to everyone who donated their used stamps in 2018.

So please, for 2019, keep it up and drop them into either the Post Office or Credit Union in Newmarket.

Central Stores in Kanturk also accept them but, if possible, please cut one inch around the used stamp.

The stamps are donated to charities in Ireland.

Organisers wish everyone a very Happy New Year, particularly all at Teach Altra in Newmarket.
