Community news: Newmarket
Newmarket Sports and Leisure (NSL) recently held their AGM in the CYMS in Newmarket on May 17.
Chair Dan O'Riordan opened the meeting and thanked everybody for coming before giving his address.
He thanked his committee for all their hard work with the ongoing maintenance of the facility and commitment to the collection of rental monies for the astro-turf throughout the year.
Dan also gave an overview of all the development works carried out in 2017, as well as development works to be carried out in 2018.
A new defibrillator has been installed on the wall as you exit the astro-turf on the left hand side. €280,000 has been spent by NSL since 2013 and even allowing for upcoming projects, they expect to be debt-free before the end of the year.
NSL are now building a fund to cover the replacement of the carpet, which is very expensive. The GAA was also thanked for their cooperation and leasing of their grounds.
Reports were also given by secretary BB O'Sullivan; Treasurer John Murphy; and Paul Murphy, giving an overview of grants received to date by Newmarket Sports and Leisure.
Chair of Newmarket Adult GAA Neily McCarthy thanked the committee for improving the facilities and commended them on their dedication and commitment to the centre, and for overseeing the bookings and collection of rentals throughout the year.
Neily was then asked to head the appointment of officers and the following committee was elected: Dan O'Riordan (Chair); Paul Murphy (Vice Chair); BB O'Sullivan (Secretary); Barry O'Leary (Assistant Secretary); Mark Murphy (Treasurer); John Murphy; Eileen Lane; and Joe O'Connor.
Outgoing treasurer John Murphy was thanked for his hard work and commitment, overseeing expenditure, income, and grants, a massive undertaking for such a big project.
They have also thanked all those who attended the AGM, as well as all the clubs, organisations, groups, and schools who continue to support the community facility.
