Community news: Kanturk Calling

The Redfm Division 1 SHL continues apace with Kanturk travelling to Killeagh to face the home side this weekend.

While the game is down for Sunday at 2pm it could be altered, so keep an eye on social media for any further updates closer to the weekend.

In the Redfm Div1 SHL tie against Blackrock, Kanturk had to concede home venue and travel to Mahon on Saturday last, 16th March, to face the home side.

It was an exciting tie with Kanturk coming up short on a 0-16 to 1-15 score line and spurned goal chances cost the side dearly.

U21 Football:

In the Duhallow U21FC semi-final, Kanturk were due to travel to Knocknagree to face the home side on this past Tuesday, 19th March; howevr, it was postponed late on, due to an unplayable pitch. The final was due to be played on Friday 29th March, but that is most likely to be re-arranged also.

Juvenile Affairs:

Due to the inclement weather all fixtures under the Rebel Og North were cancelled over the past weekend. One game that did get played was the Rebel Og North U14 Div2 FL with Wolfe Tones (Kanturk) hosting Killavullen under lights at the Freemount Rd field on Thursday last, 14th March, with the home side losing out 6-04 to 6-05.

Three games are listed for the coming week with the U12 footballers travelling to Kiskeam to play Sliabh Luachra Gaels on Friday, 22nd March for a 6.45pm start. On Sunday, 24th March the U14 footballers travel to Rathcormac for a 2pm start while on Monday 25th the Minor footballers host Fermoy at the Freemount rd field at 7.45pm.

Kanturk Juvenile GAA Club holds its annual church gate collection on this Saturday and Sunday, 23rd/24th March, before all masses in Kanturk - support would be appreciated.

Table Quiz:

Kanturk GAA will hold a table quiz at the Park Bar on this Friday, 22nd March 8pm and support is required for this event.

Kanturk Men’s Shed to host Darkness Into Light walk

Help save Kanturk lives by walking from Darkness Into Light.

You are all encouraged to join Pieta House and Electric Ireland in the global fight against suicide and self-harm on May 11.

On May 11, almost 250,000 people in over 200 venues across 19 countries and five continents will walk from Darkness Into Light.

Darkness Into Light, organised by Pieta House and proudly supported by Electric Ireland since 2013, is a global movement dedicated to ending suicide and supporting those who engage in self harm.

They are now calling on the people of Kanturk and the greater Duhallow area to join the expected 250,000 participants from across the globe.

By walking from Darkness Into Light everyone can play a part in removing the stigma around suicide and self-harm, and help spread the power of hope around the world.

The walk will start at the Edel Quinn Hall at 4.15am on May 11 and finish there also with a well-deserved cup of tea.

Darkness Into light is promoted locally by Kanturk Men's Shed.


Daffodil Day coffee morning

This Friday, March 22, is Daffodil Day and Marion and Helen are hosting a coffee morning in the temperance hall from 10am till 1pm.

Please pop in for a cuppa and support the amazing work of the cancer society. Any baking would also be greatly appreciated.

Lorraine O'Riordan Choir

The Lorraine O'Riordan Choir will be singing at the 6.30pm Vigil Mass on Saturday, 30th March in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Kanturk.


Bowling news

Results from the Denis Horgan Social Bowling Club's Winter competition:

Ned Kelleher, Joanne Murphy and Maurice Cashman beat Aaron Mackey, Danny Murphy and John Breen by a bowl of odds. Danny Murphy, John Breen and Aaron Mackey beat Ned Kelleher, Maurice Cashman and Joanne Murphy for the last shot.


Soccer club's lotto draw

There was no winner of the Jackpot in Kanturk Soccer Club's Lotto Draw for Saturday, 16th March.

The numbers drawn were 7, 37, 43, 23 and the Bonus Number was 3. Winner of the bonus number draw for €40 was Dinny Driscoll, Newmarket. Lucky Dip winners of €15 each were: Maura Fallon, Kanturk; Helen O'Regan, Greenane c/o Rebecca, Bam Bam, St Patrick's Place, Kevin Brennan, St Theresas Place, Ger Dugdale, Newmarket c/o Rebecca and Mary Guiney, Kanturk.
