Big wheels rolling in Freemount

Sheila Fitzgerald

It was a case of 'Big wheels rolling, moving on' last Sunday when 107 Tractors assembled at Freemount Community Centre for a charity event organised by Freemount Macra.

The fundraising run, now in it's 6th year, generated €5,300 which will be shared between Cope Foundation, Kanturk, and Down Syndrome Cork.

While members of Macra are hugely supportive of the event each year, tractor owners from the wider community around North Cork also rolled up to lend their support.

Meanwhile, wide eyed small boys and girls enjoyed seeing the large number of huge modern and vintage tractors.

After a fortifying cup of tea, the convoy left Freemount at 12.30pm in glorious sunshine, travelling to Kanturk, Kilbrin and Liscarroll, and returning to Freemount after the two hour round trip for a get together and further refreshments.

Freemount Macra members are not resting on their laurels, having scooped the Club of the Year accolade in 2018. They are currently involved in drama, debating, farm skills, and the Capers contest.

Mary Anne Murphy, speaking to the Corkman, said that the Club thanks everyone who took part, as well as all the volunteers and sponsors.
