SENIOR DEBATING WORKSHOP - A very entertaining debating workshop was held in The Crossraods Bar and Bistro, Buttevant recently.

The Avondhu regional committee organised the event as an initiative to promote Avondhu Macra members of the eight clubs in the region to take part in the Avondhu Debating Competition. Consequently there are now six teams taking part the competition.

The teams on the night were of members from various clubs with girls versus boys. The girls team consisted of Louise Bourke (Freemount), team chairperson, Claire O'Flynn (Freemount) and Valerie Rice.

The boys' team consisted of Gerry Griffin from Araglen, Kieran Butler from Banteer and Thomas Stritch from Freemount Macra. It was neck on neck on the night between the two debating teams.

Noeleen Moylan, long term judge and coach for Avondhu Macra Novice debating, Impromptu debating, Senior Debating and Team Public speaking was there on the night to giver her advice, comments and tips to the debaters. After long deliberation the motion fell with the boys team coming out as winners on the night.

A sincere thanks to The Crossroads Bar and Bistro for the venue, the Avondhu regional committee for organising the event, presiding officer and timekeeper Marie Murphy and Miriam Angland, the debating teams for taking the time to plan the debate, the very attentive audience and Noeleen Moylan for giving her expert advice on the night.

The Avondhu regional debating quarter took place on January 11th on the Community hall in Castletownroche. The teams on the night will be as follows: Ballyhoura proposing vs. Freemount opposing. (motion: That the Internet Should be Censored); Banteer Vs. Mitchelstown ( That Irish Emigrants Should be allowed to Vote). The teams that will compete in the Semi final are Mitchelstown, Freemount, Sliabh Luachra and Awbeg Macra
