Freemount: 45 Drive - The weekly 45 Drive was well attended on Sunday night last. The following is a list of the lucky winners. First prize went to :- Tim and Ted Murphy, Newmarket. Best Ladies team was:- Maura Burke, Broadford, and Mary Noonan, Freemount.

The Gents Prize was won by:-Richard Kiely, and Michael O'Connor, Lismire. The winning mixed prize was won by:-Nellie Mai Foley, Glashakeenleen, and Daithí Burke, Meelin.The Table Prize was won by :-Jerry O'Callaghan, and Dan Murphy, Freemount. The following won raffle prizes:-1 Richard Kiely, Lismire 2 Tim Broderick. Freemount 3 Chris Waallace, Freemount 4 Con Foley, Freemount 5 Ted Murphy, Newmarket.

St Michael's Church

Mass on Sunday Morning as usual at 10.30am. Holy Hour on Monday night at 7pm.followed by Mass at 8pm. Mass on Tuesday morning at 9.30am.

Juvenile GAA AGM

The AGM of Freemount Juvenile Gaa will take place at 8pm in the GAA room on Monday night NEXT January.13th. It is essential that a parent of each juvenile player from u6's up are in attendance. Please attend this important meeting. Anyone is welcome to attend who wishes to get involved in any way.

Macra news

We would like to wish all our members and friends the very best for 2020 and hope you all had a lovely Christmas. On December 23rd we visited both Newmarket and Boherbue nursing homes where we provided some light entertainment for the residents. We sang Christmas carols, played music and danced.

We also held our annual Christmas quiz in Barry's bar in Freemount on Friday the 27th Friday of December. Thanks to all those who took part and showed their support on the night.

We had a club meeting last Sunday night in Freemount hall. Lots discussed on the night. Our next club meeting will take place on the 9th February at 8:30pm in Freemount Heritage centre.

Congratulations to our Capers team who were placed 1st in the Cork County round in Castlemagner recently. Congratulations to our Capers producer Miriam Angland for being awarded 'Best Producer' on the night and to Aoife O'Connor for being awarded 'Best female'. A great achievement for our club and members to win the county title in this competition. Our members are now through to the All-Ireland Semi-final on this Saturday the 11th January in the Great Southern Hotel in Killarney. There will be 5 teams competing on the night and two will qualify for the All-Ireland final. Doors open at 6:30pm and the show will start at 7pm. All support greatly appreciated on the night. Best of luck to all in the National Semi-final! All this weekend, there will be officer training in Killarney. A great weekend of fun assured for those interested in attending.

Best wishes to our Senior Debating team of Siobhan Ring, Lisa Ring, Noreen Stritch and Breda Stritch competing on the 4th January. Venue to be confirmed. There will be a Regional Karting Competition on Sunday 9th of February in Kartworld, Watergrasshill. If you would like to take part, please let us know.

Video Tour of Newberry/Kilshannig Graveyard

The friends of Kilshannig Graveyard have produced a comprehensive video of the history and heritage of the above historic site dating back to c. 550 AD to fund the erection of a guide and mapboard on site.

The hour long video is packed with details of many famous people buried there, their impact on the local landscape and the legacies they left behind. Some more recent and notable locals are also buried in the graveyard and the video also captures the establishment of Kilshannig Parish both Catholic and Church of Ireland.

Ladies Football

As we prepare for the 2020 season, Kilshannig Ladies welcome both new and past members. It would be great to welcome back ladies who are eager to return to the field of play. Ireland Lights Up 2020

Kilshannig GAA in association with RTÉ's Operation Transformation are participating in Ireland Lights Up 2020. We will be turning on our floodlights from 7-9pm every Thursday for 6 weeks from 16th January 20th February. This will provide a safe and well lit area to go for a walk during the dark winter evenings. Club members and non-members are welcome - We want everyone to come and participate for Ireland Lights Up 2020!Please spread the word. Unfortunately dogs are not permitted.


Jim Biggane RIP

Lismire GAA would like to express it's deepest condolences to the family of Jim Biggane on his recent passing. An accomplished hurler Jim was one of the founding members of the club in 1972 and captained the hurling team in 1973.

His contribution in the Novice Hurling League Final in 1974 was one of the main reasons Lismire captured its first ever hurling trophy defeating Dromtariffe in Kanturk on a scoreline Lismire 1.9 Dromtariffe 1.4. The team on that day was Ben Finn, Dinny Kearney, Tom Biggane, Pat O'Connor, Sean Finn, Tom Dennehy, John O'Callaghan, Pakie Flaherty, Pat Roche, Paddy Kearney, Ollie Kearney, Jim Biggane, Bryan O'Connor. Variety Show

Our Annual Variety Show will take place on Friday 17th and Saturday 18th January in the localcommunity center. Tickets will be on sale shortly.

Community Association AGM

At our Annual General Meeting which was held recently,a detailed report was read out on the events that took place during the year. Our chairperson Marie Arnold thanked everyone for all their help and support and to look forward to the year ahead.

Live Crib

Lismire Community Association would like to thank everyone who supported our live crib recently it was a tremendous success and a donation from our raffle will go towards our local helicopter service which is vital to our community.
