Freemount - 45 Drive: The weekly 45 Drive was well attended on Sunday night last. The following is a list of the lucky winners:- First prize went to:-Kate O'Brien, and Mary Withers, Newmarket The best Ladies team was :-Maureen Vaughan, and Eileen O'Sullivan, Kanturk.

The Gents prize was won by:-Ben and P.J.O'Sullivan, Freemount. The Mixed Prize was won by:-John and Kathleen Twomey,Meelin, Table Prize was won by:-Mary Noonan and Tim Brodrick, Freemount. Around the Fireside

The next programme of Around the Fireside will be broadcast on C103 Local Radio on Monday night next February 11th..2019 ,we have Patsy Herlihy and a group from Sliabh Luachra Country at 10.06pm.. Thursday Club

Ladies night

Ladies Activity group will meet on Tuesday Feb 12th at 8 pm at Cois Abhann. The night includes some light exercise, a chat and a cuppa. All ladies welcome

Art classes

The weekly Art class will commence in The Heritage Centre on Tuesday night next February 12th from 8pm to 10pm.

Best of Luck to our debating team of Conor Judge, Sheila O Flynn, Noirín and Breda Stritch who will take on Portlaoise in the all Ireland Senior Debating quarter finals in Killeagh on February 9th next at 8pm.Our ladies enjoyed afternoon tea in The Aghadoe Heights in Killarney on Sunday last. A lovely evening was had by all.

Our members also attended the National Capers Final in WIT Waterford and Kenmare tractor run over the weekend.

The regional round of Impromptu debating will take place On February 15th.

Our social Thursdays continue this week with a bowling trip to The Planet in Blackpool at 9pm. All are welcome to attend.We hosted the Avondhu regional monthly meeting on Monday last. Table quiz

A fundraising table quiz in aid of Kilcorney church restoration fund will be held in Moll Carthys Bridge on this Friday night the 8th February commencing at 8.30pm. Everybody welcome to come along and support this worthwhile fundraiser.

Bowling notes

Denis Horgan Bowling Club-Winter Competitions-Ned Kelleher and Mikie McAuliffe had a bowl of odds to spare over Aaron Mackey and Donal Cashman. Ned Kelleher was on the winning trail again, when he teamed up with Donal Cashman to record a last shot win over Aaron Mackey and Danny Murphy and had a similar win over Mikie McAuliffe and Maurice Cashman. Aaron Mackey and Mikie McAuliffe did the business with a bowl of odds win over Mikie Murphy and Maurice Cashman. In the second clash, it was Murphy and Cashman who produced the goods with a last shot win over Mackey and McAuliffe.

Dromtariffe GAA

Dromtariffe G.A.A. Social: Final social tickets can be bought from.Sharon O Keeffe Rathcoole, Dan Dennehy Dromagh or Mark O Connor Clonbanin. A grreat night of celebration for our County Football Champions and Duhallow Hurling Champions. Dont miss out. 5 course dinner followed by Dancing to The Kelts and Disco with Kieran Sheahan till late. Tickets €35.

Footballers commenced their County Intermediate league away to St Finbarr's on Saturday last. Conor O Callaghan opened the scoring followed by a Daniel O Keeffe free and a third Dromtarriffe score from an Adam Buckley point. Finbarr's equalised at 3 a piece then another scoring spree saw Dromtarriffe added 2.4 to a solitery Finbarr's point. The goals coming through Darren O Connor and Conor O Callaghan to register at half time 2.7 to 0.4 up. The second half commenced with 1.6 from the boot of the Dromtarriffe full forward O Keeffe to 0.3 to St Finbarr's. Not to be out done our two hardworking wing backs Brian O Keeffe & Tomas Howard popped over a point each with Shane Collins finishing their 3.16 total. Their next game is due to be at home in Rathcoole this Sunday ( 10th) v Ballinora. Please come out and support the squad.

Killavullen

Cards

Due to popular demand, and for a trial basis of a months Cards returned to Killavullen last Sunday night. There was a great turn out with five tables. The results on the night were: First Dan and Margaret McSweeny, second Anthony Kenneally and Dan Brien. Winner of the last five were Paddy McCarthy and Margaret O'Connor. Raffle winners were Margaret McSweeny, Anthony Keneally and Mary Sheedy. To welcome everyone back we also gave out third place and this was shared by Pad Sheehan and Mick O'Mahony, Denis and Nuala Cronin and Josie O'Driscoll and Christine McCormack. Cards every Sunday night at 8 p.m. in the hall.

Lotto

Community Counil lotto winners for last week have been: Missy Walsh in Griffin's Bar and in the Haven Bar the lucky winner was Connie Looney. Thank you for your continous support to this fundraiser. It is appreciated.

Nano Nagle Birthplace in Ballygriffin host a number of workshops, training events and courses on a regular basis. It is well worth checking out their website nanonaglebirthplace.ie/to keep up to date with what they have to offer.

Farmer's Market

Killavullen Farmer's Market is hosted on a regular basis at the Nano Nagle Birthplace. They are kickstarting the 2019 season this coming Saturday, February 9, with locally produced fare and welcoming faces. If you've not been recently, it certainly is worth a visit. Cycle Sportive

Killavullen National School parents' association in conjuction with Blackwater Cycling Club are hosting a Cycle Sportive of three routes: 20km, 50km and 100km on Sunday, April 28, with funds raised being donated to Marymount Hospice and Killavullen National School. Earlybird registration is €20 for the first 100 entrants and €25 for all entries thereafter. There will be food stops en route and in Killavullen at the end of this much anticipated event.

Garda Conor retires

Killavullen Community Council would like to extend best wishes to local garda, Conor Hedigan on his retirement. Conor has been working with us in Killavullen for many years and has been more than willing to help out at any of the big community occasions we have hosted, from school events, to church events. to GAA events and festival events.

He has been an understanding advisory figure during the good times and has helped and guided many families through tougher times. We wish him a long and happy retirement and hope to see him around in the coming years. Go raibh maith agat Conor.

RESUMPTION OF FOOTBALL LEAGUES - The Avondhu football leagues are due to resume this year on the weekend starting February 8.

FIXTURES - Sunday, February 8, in Fermoy at 10.30 AM - Avondhu Division 1 Football League.

The minor football leagues are scheduled to start on February 16.

LOTTO - The lotto of a cool €1,500 last Tuesday night was not won, and rolls on. Numbers drawn - 25, 34 and 35 - No Winner. DEATH OF PETER FITZPATRICK - The club regrets to announce the passing of Peter Fitzpatrick, a member of our first championship winning team in 1963. He played hurling and football for us and was a diligent and committed player. Lining out at full forward position he used his height to great effect. He was born in Aughavan near Mohill Co.Leitrim and joined an Garda Síochána in 1954 and served in Mitchelstown, Killavullen, Cork City, Buncrana, Portlaoise, and Thurles, where he retired as Chief Superintendent in 1992. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

CAVANAGH'S CAR DRAW - Killavullen GAA Club, has now got tickets for sale for sale, with the first prize being a Ford Fiesta, second and third prizes are €1,000 and prizes from fourth to 18th place being €250. This draw is as a result of winning the afore mentioned Avondhu Division 2 hurling league in 2018.

In addition to these excellent prizes, the money raised from the sale of tickets in Killavullen will go to fund numerous short, medium and long term projects. These projects cannot be achieved without the support of the general public, in our parish and beyond.

MEMBERSHIP 2019 - Membership for all aspects of the club is now due for 2019, and the club would be gracious if persons will pay the appropriate fee to any committee member, or make arrangement to pay directly, to the membership officer John O'Donovan, at 086 3934232.

Juvenile membership is collected through the juvenile registration process and the players pay their membership to the team managers.

For the general public, the rates for 2018 are as follows. Full Adult membership - Working - €50. Student/OAP - €30.

JUVENILE AGM - The juvenile club AGM is on this Thursday night, the seventh at 8.00 PM in Killavullen community hall. Please support.

Clyda Rovers GAA

Results: Clyda Rovers Senior team started there league campaign versus Macroom last sunday where they won on a scoreline of 1-11 to 1-07. The goal was scored by Ben O'Connor who also scored three points from play, The Team lined out as follows: G O'Shea, C Kenny, R Carey, S Roynane, M Forde, F O'Shea, J Buckley, T Buckley, C Flanagan, C Kelly, B O Connor, D Walsh, R Willis, P Cronin, S Roynane.
