Freemount - 45 Drive: The weekly 45 Drive was well attended on Sunday night last.

The game finished with a prayer for the repose of the soul of Andy O'Neill, formally of Gooseberry Hill, Newmarket, who died in New York during the week. May his soul rest in peace,.

County Fleadh Cheoil

This year The County Fleadh Cheoil will be held in Dunmanway on April 26th, 27th,and 28th.2019. Please note change of date.. The dancing competition will take place in Dunmanway on Monday May 6th. ( bank holiday)

The annual Churchgate collection in aid of The Lourdes Invalid Fund will take place at Saint Michael's Church Freemount on this Sunday April 14th.before Mass. Your generosity on this occasion would be much appreciated for this very worthy cause

Macra news

Congratulations to our Drama team of Ann Fitzgerald and Thomas Stritch who now progress to the All Ireland Finals of Drama in Rossmore, Clonakilty on April 27th and 28th. They also came away with the best actor, best actress and best production award on Sunday night last in Conna. Well done to you both.

Our tractor run took place on Sunday last April 7th. Over 100 tractors participated on the day with a total of €5300 raised to date. A huge thank you to our sponsors, our club members for all their help and organising, to Marie Goggin and her family and to everyone who attended and supported this event in any way. All funds raised will be divided between the Cope Foundation and the Down Syndrome Centre, Cork.

Best wishes to Lisa Lucey and Aidan Murphy who got married last Saturday April 6th. We wish them a lifetime of health and happiness.

GAA Fixtures

JBFL v Knocknagree in Knocknagree on Friday the 12th at 8 p.m. County JHL v Cloughduv in Kilbrin on Sunday the 14th at midday.

Results - Duhallow JAHL Kilbrin faced Dr Crokes in Killarney last Sunday resulting in a scoreline of Kilbrin 4-20 to Dr Crokes 2-16.

45 card game

This week saw the 45 finishing for the season. We would like to thank Dan and Gerry Sullivan for their commitment in organising this throughout the year, and every other year also.


Bingo every Monday night from 8.30. Jackpot is €1,600 on 46 calls. Bonus ball is €160. We would like to thank everyone for their continued support of Monday night bingo and you have attended in great numbers this year.

Poker night

The social club host a poker night every Friday night at 9 p.m. There are only two nights left and we will break for the summer.

Golf Society

The Masters is on the telly and the golf season is on cue to kick off. Kilbrin Golf society have released the fixtures for 2019. They are as follows. April 27 at Tipperary Golf Club. May 17 at Bantry Golf Club. May 18 at Skibbereen Golf Club. June 15 at Fermoy Golf Club. July 20 at Newcastlewest Golf Club. August 10 at Kanturk Golf Club. Happy golfing to everyone.

Over-60s singing competition

Over-60s singing competition with Paddy O'Brien great success with a full house and great entertainment. Thanks to all that entered. Thanks to Noreen Murphy and her family and Darragh, who gave a great opening to the show. Thanks to Stephen Roche and his wife for all their work in organising the event. Big thank you to Paddy O'Brien for his professionalism.

A special mention to Kate Noonan from Curraghs and Mallow, who was the oldest competitor and it shows that the ability to entertain never stops. A great night was had by all and we would again like to wish Nora Mary O'Riordan all the best in the semi-finals on May 7. We hope to be organising a bus to this event. Village clean-up

Thanks to everyone that took part in the clean-up. It was a great success. Most loads have been collected and any remaining ones will be collected in the coming days. Please contact the below contact details if your bags have not been collected yet.


We are organising a defibrillator course in the community centre in the coming weeks. If anyone is interested in taking part please contact any member of the committee or leave your name in the social club. The existing names of existing users will need to be updated. When we get a date for this we will let you know.

Note that this is a potential lifesaving piece of equipment that we have in the community centre and we need to ensure that people know where it is and how to use it. It is after all for the whole community. We would love expressions of interest for this so please partake.

Tír na nÓg

Very successful meeting last Monday night with a nice floral display from Josie's flower shop Kanturk and spring pruning and gardening. They are planning am outing to the everyman in the near future. More information on the progress to follow in this column.

Dr Croke house

Keep the second Sunday in May clear in your diaries for the Bealtaine evening in Dr Croke House. This promises to be another great evening and will start at 8 p.m. till 10.30 p.m. More details to follow on this column in the coming weeks.


As you may have noticed the playground has been completed. We are waiting for an examination from the council before we can open it. The community would like to thank Paulina Breen and her playground committee for organising the work and getting this project completed. Planning, tendering and organising takes much work and we are grateful for it.

Of course big thanks also needs to go to the people of Kilbrin for their support in the project. The tiles that were removed from the playground will be reused in the area around the community centre to make the seating areas safer. This will take place in the coming weeks.

Community Hall

The next works to take place in the community centre will be amplification and stage lighting. These are very necessary as what we have is dated. We will of course keep you updated.


The Kilbrin community council would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family of Marie Hanifan of Malahile Dublin and her extended family in Kilbrin.

Condolences also to Paulina Breen and family on the death of her father, recently. May they rest in Peace.
