A great day was had by all visiting many interesting venues on route, finishing up in Derrynane House and on to Kenmare for the final meal. The Group which included a large contingent from Millstreet, enjoyed the craic and sing song on the last leg of journey home. Well done Jack and Louise and all in IRD Duhallow.

Kilbrin School Green Flag

A huge congratulations to all at Kilbrin national School on receiving the Green Flag status last week. This is another great milestone for the school and we are sure the flag will hang proudly. Leading the charge to make schools greener is the Green-Schools international environmental education programme and award scheme, run in Ireland by An Taisce.

Green-Schools is operated in partnership with local authorities and has been a fully national programme since 2001. The award part of the scheme comes in the form of a green flag-a now well respected and recognised eco-label. To achieve green flag status takes quite an amount of work and for this we must thank Geraldine and the staff at the school for their ongoing commitment. Of course the pupils played a big part and thanks to each and every one of them.

The best part of this whole process is the educational aspect and it will help to instil a whole new way of thinking and living for the next generation. Keeping green flag status for the school is now the priority as it will be renewed every two years. We are sure that the staff and pupils will meet this challenge head on and succeed. The day itself was marked with great celebration at the school and a special thanks to Mary (Niall) O'Sullivan for the dancing and entertainment.

Lisgriffin Sports

Last Sunday saw the annual Lisgriffin sports take place and a big number of Kilbrin pupils participated and all races and all age groups. This event has been running for many years and is a great family day out. As usual Geraldine Murphy has the Kilbrin students very well prepared for this event and it is of course very beneficial to the children's health and well-being.

Big thanks to Mairead Lucey and her team for organising the Kilbrin students on the day. As usual, the event was ran with great efficiency and we would like to thank all involved in Lisgriffin NS for keeping this very summer tradition going. Congratulations to Ballyclough NS on winning the cup for 2019 and we hope to see everyone there again next year.

Féile na nGael

The John West Féile na nGael National tournaments will be held in Cork and Kerry on the weekend of June 7 to June 9 2019.

This year Killavullen will host Monageer/Boulavogue from Co. Wexford. It is a great honour and privilege to be both competing and hosting this event and it is a big undertaking for the mentors of the under-14 team and indeed the whole GAA club.

A lot of work has been and continues to go into the organising, to be successful hosts and to showcase the club and our community to our Wexford Families and to the teams who will travel to play in Killavullen GAA grounds.

There will be matches in the pitch with crowds of expected visitors so a lot of support will be needed from a logistical point of view.

Hosting so many matches, with large crowds attending will be no mean feat and Killavullen GAA Club would appreciate help from everyone and anyone who can donate some of their time to help out: attending to the car park, traffic management, litter control, toilet checks, or to provide refreshments. No offer will be rejected, it's all hands on deck, even if you are not a member of Killavullen GAA Club.

If you would have any time to spare please contact any member of the Killavullen GAA Club, who will put you in touch with the right people, or contact one of the under-14 coaches, John Hannon, Kevin Lillis, Greg Fennell or Mick Rae.

Exam time
