Killavullen GAA

Killavullen advanced to the second round of this year's under-21 Hurling championship, B Grade at the expense of Buttevant last night on a final score of 3-17 to 0-06 but the game was tighter than that margin suggests, just that Killavullen were more clinical in the forward divisions, while our new look back line was really impressive, with Michael Fresh and Fionn Magner excelling in unorthodox positions.

The Killavullen Minor hurlers got their championship up and running with a hard earned win over St Kevin's last Thursday evening in Milford. Killavullen 0-20 St Kevin's 1-11

A point separated the sides in a hard fought ding dong battle in balmy Ballyhea as our under-14s got the championship season off to a winning start. By the skin of our teeth and just about deserved we look forward to round two next week in Killavullen vs Buttevant July 10, come out and shout them on.

Special mention to Charlie Cremin, who was a rock in goals as always, even though he played with a broken toe. Speedy recovery to Rory Regan and Eoin Forde, both out injured, but who helped from the side-line.

CÚL CAMP - A record number of 185 children took part this year in the Cúl Camp that took place in excellent weather last week in Killavullen GAA Field. The camp, organised by Máire O'Connor was superbly led and to cater and keep interested that number of kids is really spectacular, and a testament to Máire's organisation skill, and that of the crew that she has assembled around her.We thought that last year's figure of 167 kids could not be beaten, but we fairly blew that number out of the water.

Máire was modest in accepting any accolades but instead deflected the attention to others, like Liam Vaughan, Rose Maria Taylor and an army of Killavullen under-16 and minor boys and girls were are the real stars of the show, as coaches and helpers. It is these people who orchestrate all of the drills and see that they are executed properly, yet maintaining a fun atmosphere.

A special thanks to all our children who were great and we hope you enjoyed your week in camp, also a big thanks to all the moms and dads that helped us out over the week. Also a special thanks to our Cork player Niall O'Leary, who called to us on Thursday, spoke with all our groups and signed jerseys and helmets. Congratulations and well done to Ava Hanrahan and Charlie Cremin on winning the skills competition.

Mourneabbey

Juvenile GAA

Clyda U14 hurlers played Championship against Kilara Og in Mourneabbey on a glorious evening last Wednesday. They started brightly and were 1-01 to no score after three minutes. However, Kilara Og responded quickly and were level after five minutes of play. Clyda again took the lead through a well worked goal from Harry O Rourke and points from Sean O Sullivan. The game swung back in favour of Kilara Og again through two goals in the 17th and 19th minute, tactically working the ball down the wings and into the corners. Clyda again dug deep and responded with points from Harry and a goal on the stroke of half time by Aidan Kelly. Half time score Clyda 3-09 Kilara Og 3-08.

Clyda started their second half in a whirlwind fashion with midfield dominance from Kieran Buckley and Cathal O Riordan giving the forwards a plentiful supply of ball which resulted in further goals for Harry and Aidan and points from Sean, Connor O Mullane and Matthew Harrington. The backs tightened up considerably in the second half with Bobby Deane and Denis O Mahony catching the eye in the half back line.
