Castlemagner Hall AGM
The AGM was held on June 9 in the hall. Vice-chairman Paul Gallagher opened the meeting by welcoming everyone and thanking them for taking the time to attend.
Paul said that the community centre was at the heart of the community providing a place for people of all ages to gather and socialise, to take part in sport, provide a meeting space for the many clubs and organisations in the parish and to join in a wide range of activities including drama, dance classes, socials, yoga, Irish classes, quizzes etc.
The secretary Lisa Murphy gave a comprehensive report of activities since the previous AGM Denis O’Donoghue gave the financial report outlining some of the challenges faced due to Covid.
An election of officers took place, and the following were elected: Shane O’Connor (chairperson), Paul Gallagher (Vice-Chair), Josephine Vaughan and Audrey O’Donoghue (Joint treasurers), Caitriona McCarthy (secretary) and Bernie Daly (Assistant secretary).
Kathleen Moylan thanked the outgoing committee for their work, especially in light of the challenges they faced during their tenure from Covid restrictions. She congratulated the new committee and wished them success. Reps from other voluntary committees also wished the new committee every success and assured them of their full support.
A discussion took place on future plans and development for the community centre and ideas that may be applied for under the community centre Investment Fund as announced by Minister Heather Humphreys.
Huge work is being undertaken all round the parish by numerous volunteers. The group meets every Tuesday evening at 7.30 and all help is welcome and appreciated.
To date this year abandoned houses have been repainted in Cecilstown, An Taisce Spring Clean of the whole parish, Billy’s Green to the Grotto was litter picked with the help and support of our friends in Kanturk Tidy Towns, flower beds and pots were maintained and replanted, adopt a mile initiative is going strong with lots of people keeping their own road litter-free, villages swept, weeded and tidied, the graveyard was cleaned and tidied while following best sustainable and biodiversity practices.
The committee in conjunction with the CCDA are currently working in the background on a couple of exciting projects that will further enhance both villages and the community. Watch this space. We would ask everyone to please continue to support our work in making the community a nicer place to live, work and visit.
Presentation to Sean O’Gorman
A presentation to mark Sean O’Gorman’s retirement as principal of Kilbrin National School, will take place on this Friday 24th June, at 11am at Kilbrin NS. Everyone is welcome to come along, Weather permitting it will be an outdoor event. Light refreshments.

Kilbrin NS complete hurling/football double
A telling surge allowed Kilbrin get the better of a battling Boherbue in the 7-a-side Hurling final with both sides putting together neat touches and precision shooting.Kilbrin set about their task with confidence and energising effort carried an attacking threat to grab goals from brothers Jack and Sam Lynch with Billy Hayes and and Benjamin Lyons in fine shooting form. In fairness, Boherbue relished the challenge for Cian O’Connor, Aaron Breen and Darragh Cronin to bag encouraging goals. However in the face of pressure, Kilbrin held their nerve and swept home worthy winners.

Well done to the U11 footballers who won the Brian Cronin Memorial Cup on Saturday last beating Macroom, Sliabh Luachra Gaels and Canovee on route to final and after a very sporting hard fought game against Kilmurray they lifted the cup winning by a one point margin.
Progressive 45 Drive Card Game
There is a Progressive 45 Card Game in Kilbrin Social Club every Wednesday night starting at 9pm. Very comfortable setting, come along and if you don’t have a partner we’ll get one for you. Admission €5, there’s also raffle on the night. Everyone welcome

Kilbrin Golf Society
Kilbrin golf society held their 4th outing of the year on Saturday last 18th June, to Newcastle West. 15 players took to the course in ideal weather conditions, with the following results. 1st. Michael Murphy, Breege Buckley, Anne O’Sullivan. 2nd. Dan O’Sullivan, Shane Crowley, Betty O’Connor. 3rd. Brian Mackessey, Neilus Buckley, Pat O’Grady. The next outing for the society is on July 9th to Dungarvan.
