Boherbue - Bereavement: There was great sadness during the past week where the news spread of the passing of Michael Murphy, Ballintemple, Cork and formerly from Ruhillmore, Boherbue.
The Murphy family moved to Whitechurch in the early 70's but true to form remained loyal Boherbue men. Michael played in goals throughout his football career and though short in height he made up for it with his flexibility and cuteness.
As stated the Murphy family never lost touch with home (Boherbue) and in spring of'79 during the GAA field development they made contact offering their services for some project in relation to some.
Their kind of offer was quickly accepted and they were assigned to build the front entrance wall which they completed over four Sundays and it still stands in their memory.
They were busy men in their own life yet they travelled from cork at the weekend, their day of rest, to help out - Boherbue was in their blood.
The late Michael was laid to rest at St Michael's cemetery in Blackrock on Friday after a long illness bravely born. He was accompanied on his final journey from the church to the cemetery by the Boherbue GAA flag that rested lightly on his coffin. He was smiling.
Sympathy is extended to his wife Breda and family, brothers, extended relatives and many friends. May he rest in peace.
At the weekend local juvenile handballers were in action. Cathal Ducey, Dan Sheehan and Evan Enright were part of the Cork under-16-17 team that travelled to Wexford where they won the all-Ireland 40x20 defeating Galway in the final.
Tomás O'Connor was a member of the cork under-12/13 side that lost out after a great contest. It was off to Kingscourt in Cavan for Carmel Kelleher, who was port of the Munster team that won the Inter Provincials Title. Congratulations to all involved.
