Banteer: Delay in Broadband roll-out - Banteer Lyre and Districts Community Council have this past week sought an explanation for the six-month delay in completion of EFibre rollout to the village and from both Eir and KN Network Services (KNNS).

This project, which started many months ago, was to finish last June and was to provide 100mb Broadband speeds to all houses in and around the village area.

This type of delay is unacceptable in these times when broadband is vital to all areas of the country.

George Drage of KNNS has stated the following: "Re the fibre in Banteer there is a problem at the level crossing. There is an existing Eircom duct that is blocked two places under the train track. Eircom are getting quotes for a directional drilling company to install new duct under the train tracks and are in contact with Irish Rail."

But the local community council says the delays in completing this work are not caused by this, as Iarnrod Éireann claim they are waiting for a number of months for a plan of action from Eir and their contractors and are ready to facilitate the necessary work at the railway crossing.

Clarity is being sought by the community council.

Drama Group

On this Friday night, the Castlemagner Players Drama Group will again take to the stage for the final weekend of their production of John B Keane's play Big Maggie in Castlemagner Community Centre. The show will run on Friday 30th Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd.

Maggie Polpin is a widowed mother of four living in rural Ireland, now sole owner of the Polpin family shop and farm since the death of her husband. She is a complex figure, far from the clichés of Irish femininity which preceded her.

This is a hard-bitten, uncompromising woman who puts her personal security above all other concerns. She rejects the place which cultural precedent has laid out for her and chooses to drive all of her children away rather than nurture them like a mother can by trying to force them to do things that will benefit Maggie.

This production is a Castlemagner Sinsir Club (Senior Citizens) fundraiser and your support would be greatly appreciated. It promises to be a great night of entertainment and will start at 8pm each night. Tickets are available at the door for €10.00
