Duck Race results - On Monday last, Banteer Community Sportsfields annual Duck race at the Glen River attracted large crowds with the winners as follows: €250 - Raymond Walsh €100 Calum O'Shaughnessy, Voucher Teddy Cronin, €20 each to Trevor Twohig, Elle Buckley, Patrick O'Shaughnessy, Daniel Curtin, Conor Og O'Keeffe, Martin Murphy Killarney.

Profits from the Duck Race go towards the upkeep and maintenance of the Sportsfield/Park facilities.

The development work, which started some 18 years ago, has had a total of over €1M spent on the project to date. This past year for example a lot of work has been completed thanks to the support from the draw and grants.

Thanks to Pipetech Engineering, who sponsored voucher. Our thanks to all who supported this event and to landowner Séamus O'Keeffe for use of river venue. Also many thanks to the IRD RSS team for cleaning the river bank.

Community Childcare

Congratulations to Banteer Community Childcare, who were granted €70,000 under the EYC 2017 programme.

The funding which is most welcome and was announced by Minister Michael Creed and Minister Katherine Zappone is for the provision of additional childcare places at the centre and maintenance of existing centre.

Banteer Community Childcare is now one of the most progressive childcare centres in the Munster region and provides an invaluable service to local parents. The centre won the Duhallow Business Award 2015 and also the Community Enterprise category award.

This community enterprise which is opened 10 years this year now employs over 30 staff and caters for over 210 children.

The centre which is run by centre Manager Mary Murphy and staff and a voluntary board has continued to grow and grow and these plans for further expansion will help with the current waiting list.

It is hoped to hold an open day in early September.

Underage Soccer

Our Soccer Camp was held in the Sportsfield from 19th to July 21. Everything went off great despite the weather not being as good as usual. Everyone had a good time. Many thanks to the Coaches, Richie, Colum, Tim, Keelan, Jack, Lee and also to Áine from the Cork City Women's Soccer. Looking forward to next year again.

Tidy Towns

Please help keep Banteer litter-free. Volunteers meet every Monday and Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. in the square. If you would like to help in any way - weed/sweep/plant/paint please come along. If any business in the area would like to sponsor a flower bed/pot or any of our projects please contact a member of the committee.

Glen Theatre

Glen Theatre welcome grant of €12,262 from Department of arts for improvement works at the venue.

Tullamore Show bus

Gym available to let

Banteer Community Centre Gym is available to let. This is a fully furnished gym and weights room, adjacent also to indoor astroturf area. Open to proposals from interested parties. Terms and conditions apply. Contact 087 2616178 or 087 2822847.


Bweeng Celtic FC

Our 17/18 season starts next week with training resumes on Bweeng Pitch this week.

Under-8s (born 2010 and 2011) on Friday the 11th at 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., under-10s (born 2008 and 2009) on Wednesday 9th at 6.30 p.m., and the under-12s (born 06 and 07) on Friday the 11th at 6 p.m.

We are running free fun sessions for boys born in 2012 or 2011 over the summer. All boys of this age welcome every Saturday 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Bweeng Community Pitch (no pre-booking necessary). Wear shin guards. Parents need to stay.

Ladies' Football

Huge congratulations to the club's Minor and junior footballer Aisling Healy, who played fantastic football in the Minor A all-Ireland Final to beat Galway in Tullamore on Bank Holiday Monday.
