EPS win Leadership prize - Locally-owned water treatment specialist EPS Group Mallow took the SEI Leadership Award in Dublin last Thurs night, having co-ordinated several community projects around the country.

Its efforts saw 81 community and voluntary groups including addiction centres, sheltered housing, sports clubs and schools benefit from almost €2million in funding for energy saving projects. Entrants from all over Ireland to this year's Sustainable Energy Awards have saved an unprecedented €48 million in the last year through their extraordinary sustainable energy projects.

From a local Banteer Lyre point of view EPS Group have helped complete the following community energy saving projects costing over €190,000.

Lyre NS Fundraiser

Celebrity Chef Neven Maguire, in association with Lyre National School, will be holding a cookery demonstration in the Charleville Park Hotel, Charleville on the 10th of March, 2016. There will be a cheese and wine reception along with an indoor market of Irish artisan food produce.

This is guaranteed to be a great night out. Neven is very entertaining and even the most experienced cooks will pick up a few tips. Those who come on the night are in with a chance to be picked to dine at the Chefs table with a friend, eating as Neven cooks alongside you.

One lucky person who buys raffle tickets on the night will be the envy of the crowd when they win dinner and one nights bed and breakfast for 2 in Neven's award winning MacNean House & Restaurant in Blacklion, Co. Cavan to enjoy hospitality and gourmet cuisine second to none. There will be lots of other great prizes too.

Banteer School News

Currently the school is in the process of applying for its second Green Flag. The theme this year is energy conservation. Last week a very informative presentation was given to the senior classes by Emer O'Keeffe of O'Keeffe Solar Panels, Water Harvesting, Electrical and Plumbing on the benefits of Solar Panels and Water Harvesting.

The children thoroughly enjoyed the talk and learned about the value of using our natural resources-sunlight and rain.Energy tips for November: Seal inside doors with a draught excluder. Don't leave fridge or freezer doors open.

Bingo Fundraiser

Banteer Ladies Football Club are hosting a Family Bingo Fundraiser this coming Sunday Nov 29th at 3pm in Banteer. This promises to be a great day with fun for all ages. There will be a shop and a raffle on the day. This will be our main fundraiser for the underage club for the year so please support if you can. Anyone interested in sponsoring a line (€20), a full house (€50) or a spot prize for the raffle please contact a member of the committee.

Juvenile GAA agm

Banteer and Lyre Juvenile GAA club will hold its annual AGM on Sunday the 6th of December at 7:00 in Lyre Community centre. This is an opportunity for all within the community to share in the analysis of the year that has been as well as help the club to plan for the year ahead and so it would be great to see a strong attendance on the night.

Community Alert

Banteer Lyre and Districts Community Council and Community Alert have set up a Garda text alert system locally and this will alert people by text of any criminal activity in the area. If you are interested in joining this please complete a form and return to Denis Withers Jimmy Moore or Rose Healy. Sportsfield/Park draw

Thanks for support to date and if there are other people that need tickets then they can join for the remaining draw at €25. Next draw is early December.

Alarms for the elderly

The Banteer Lyre and Districts Community Council Alarm Scheme for the elderly aims to encourage community support for vulnerable older people in our communities, provides grant assistance towards the purchase and installation of equipment to enable older persons without sufficient means to continue to live securely in their homes with confidence, independence and peace of mind.

Grant support can be accessed through community and voluntary groups registered with the Department. All applications for grant support must be submitted through these groups. The Department cannot accept applications for grant support from individuals.

Grant support will is available for: Personal monitored alert systems (which may include monitored smoke and monitored carbon monoxide detectors as part of a monitored home package) and other items to improve the security and safety of the home.

Rural Transport

Local Link Cork who operate Rural Transport Services in County Cork, are holding an information/consultation evening in Banteer Community Hall on Monday, December 7th from 5pm to 8pm.

If you are part of a Community Organisation or interested in Rural Transport services in your area, please come along to the evening and input your suggestions/comments.

It is hoped the consultation will help identify potential areas for improvement and provide additional services where there is an identifiable need and resources available.

GAA Development Squad

GAA Development Squad training sessions for U14, U15 & U16 in Mallow GAA for both Hurling & Football. These will be held every weekend up to Sunday 6th December. We have top quality coaches at these sessions including Cork A Managers & Selectors.

If you are interested in coming along to one of these sessions as an observer you are more than welcome to do so. You can make yourself known to me on the day and if you would like to be involved in the session as an assistant coach, IT, registration or first aider etc we would be delighted to hear from you also. Dromtariffe G.A.A.

The Dromtarriffe GAA AGM will take place on this Friday November 27th at 9pm in the club rooms. We welcome our current and new members as we reflect on the playing season of 2015 and elect our club committees and team managements for the 2016 season. So come along and make sure to have your say.

County board club draw: The November draw takes place next Friday November 27th. Great prizes still to be won so if you would like to join Frank Barry will assist you.

Bowling notes

Denis Horgan Bowling Club-Winter Competitions-Eugene O Sullivan and Maurice Cashman had a last shot win over Ned Kelleher and Danny Murphy in a good competitive score. In the return score, Eugene O Sullivan and Maurice Cashman beat Ned Kelleher and Danny Murphy by the bowl of odds.

Active Club

Dromtariffe Active Club will hold their A.G.M. on Wednesday 2nd December 2015 in Derrinagree National School at 8.30pm. New members are welcome to come along on the night.

Remembrance Mass

A Remembrance Mass will take place on Thursday November 26th in Rathcoole School at 7.30pm. Those who died in the community during the past year will be especially remembered at this Mass. Everybody welcome.


Annual Ploughing Match

Our annual ploughing match will take place on this Sunday 29th November, on the lands of Mr. Tim Sherlock, Sheepmount, Castlemagner, by kind permission.

Dr. Croke House

The recently refurbished Dr. Croke House which was officially, opened on the 10th October this year, will soon be opened to the public before Christmas. It is hoped to open the house on Saturday & Sunday from 3pm to 6pm. Opening dates in next week's notes.

St. Stephen's Day Walk

The Annual St. Stephen's Day Walk will take place again this year, the walk will be in aid of the new class room for Kilbrin National School. It is hoped a large crowd will turn up this year as in other years. The walk will take place at 12noon.

Community Centre

The community council have been granted €80,000 to refurbish the main hall, plans are being drawn up at the moment for the refurbishing. Work will hopefully commence in the new year.


Bingo is on every Monday night in the centre at 8.30pm sharp.

45 Drive

Card drive is on every Wednesday night at 9.00pm. Come along and enjoy the game of cards in comfortable surroundings.

Irish Dancing

Irish dancing classes are on every Thursday night, contact Julie Nolan.

1916 Commemoration

Preparations are continuing for the 1916 celebrations. We have a book with a lot of the names of people with surnames from A-S who were involved between 1916-1927, we are hopeful that someone in the parish would have the rest of the names from T upwards as the sheet we have is torn. Hopefully if someone does come up with the rest of the names we will publish them in next week's notes.

GAA club AGM

All members of Kilbrin GAA club are requested to attend the Club's AGM on Saturday 28th November at 7.30pm. Mass for deceased member will be celebrated at 6.15. We ask all players, selectors and supporters to come to this AGM. New members most welcome. This is the place to have your say, so come along and know what is happening in your club.


Cookery Demonstration

Newmarket Ladies Football Club are holding A Taste of Christmas Fundraiser Cookery Demonstration with Frank Moynihan in the Hiland on Friday 4th December at 8pm. Frank will cook a variety of Christmas theme dishes on the night. Frank will be remembered for his time as food correspondent on the Gay Byrne Radio Show on RTE Radio 1 and is author of a best selling cookery book "A Pinch of This".

Tickets are €10 and can be purchased in local shops, from the committee or by calling Breeda 087 648 1236 or Siobhan 087 655 2160. Tickets will also be available at the door on the night. A great night assured.

Robert Emmets Win Final

Congratulations to Robert Emmets the Lismire/Newmarket combination on winning the Duhallow under 21 Hurling Championship Final for the first time on defeating Kanturk by 1 point in a very exciting encounter in Meelin on Saturday. Well done to local players Colm Noonan, Michael McSweeney, Sean McSweeney and Cathal Field and selector Jerry Miller Sheahan for their part in the victory. The final score was Robert Emmets 0.13 Kanturk 0.12. March report in the sports pages.

St Pio Mass

Mass in honour of St Pio will be held on Wednesday 2nd December in St Josephs Church, Lismire.

Community Association

Lismire Community Association will hold their A.G.M on Monday 30th November at 8pm. Everyone welcome to come along and discuss new ideas and projects for the village.

Choir Practice

Our next choir practice will be held on Monday 30th November at 7.30pm in St Josephs Church.
