Back again

Now that thankfully things have opened up again the next big focus in Boherbue is on the annual St Patrick’s Day parade which has been dearly missed over the past two years.

Cullen Pipe Band have already been booked and plans are about to be finalized to make this year’s parade bigger and better than ever.

This year too, it becomes an extra long weekend with Friday, March 18, been declared a holiday.

Hopefully, this will allow for people living in other areas an opportunity to make it home for a visit that thy have been longing for. It promises to be a special family fathering weekend for many households.

Over the past two years many new families have moved into the area and this will give them an opportunity to join and share in a festive occasion.

As usual the parade will commence at the East End after the 11 a.m. Mass and proceed to the Square where each group will be introduced to the general public who in the past have been present in big numbers.

The Grand Marshal will be London-based Pat Courtney, originally from Islandave and a member of a family steeped in the traditions of Boherbue.

But in the meantime, we all need to take care and stay vigilant, not getting careless with the Covid pandemic still in our midst. Hopefully things can get back to normal before too long.

The numbers were 9, 14, 20 and 21. Lucky dip Dylan O’Sullivan, Glenbeigh. €20 each Brian Enright Jnr, Newmarket; Tadghie and Nora Breen, The Square; Humphrey O’Riordan, Clongeel. Online Ellen O’Sullivan, Tureenavoscane. Seller’s prize: Eileen Casey O’Connor. The club AGM takes place in the clubhouse on Friday, February 4, at 8 p.m.

Extra jobs

Thanks to Údarás na Gaeltachta and others, plenty work is always available here in Muscraí and the good news is that is continuing to grow. Last year, forty five new jobs were created in both Cork Gaeltachts and with a loss of seven, thirty eight extra people got jobs locally. Most of these jobs were in engineering, manufacturing and in the food and drink industries. We can expect further growth when the Gtech hub at Coláiste Íosagán opens.
