The over 55s Christmas Party Lunch held last Sunday in The Ploughman was a mighty success.

A full house of tables was served a beautiful 4 course Lunch, soup, homemade by Marie Turkey and Ham Salad followed by a platter or 4 Deserts and then Tea and Cake.

That followed by dancing to the melodious sound of Jerome and Liam The Lee Sound. The floor was full all evening. The singers gave the dancers a break.

Cill na Martra

Wonderful Parish mission

A wonderful Parish Mission took place last week in our parish, which was full of unexpected surprises. As we hadn't a Mission since the nineties, we weren't ready for the accomplished and professional Mission team, comprising of funny Fr Lar, quiet Fr Gerry and the musical Helena. They used many methods to communicate, such as song, drama, yarns and thoughtful, but always interesting homilies.

The next surprise was the huge attendances at the ceremonies, especially in the evenings. Crowds grew as word spread and Séipéal Lachtaín Naofa was packed by the end of the Mission. Another surprise was the big turnout at the 7 a.m. Mass, especially young parishioners. Cill na Martra was blown away by the support from neighbouring Parishes, Baile Mhúirne, Cluain Droichid, Úibh Laoire and Macroom.

A number of firsts took place in Séipéal Lachtaín Naofa during the Mission, little Ciara Nell Ni Mhocháin was baptised on the opening night, teenagers acted Gospel stories and the Mission closed with set dancing by the pupils of Scoil Lachtaín Naofa. A big go raibh maith agat to our Pastoral Council, whose preparation and efficiency ensured a successful Mission.

New street lights

After years and years of waiting, two new street lights were finally erected in the village at Cathair Daithi, close to An Chrois, just in time for the Parish Mission. The main road into the village was very dark at this point and request for extra lights fell on deaf ears for many years. However, they are worth waiting for and míle buíochas to all, who facilitated this installation.

Sympathy

The death of Jim Sorenson, Prothas caused huge regret here in Cill na Martra and he will be missed especially among his neighbours. Predeceased by his wife Eileen a few months ago, the late Jim was an unassuming, patient and a true gentleman. The late Jim and Eileen settled in Cill na Martra in no time and became active parishioners, when they bought a holiday home in Prothas.

Interment took place in Reilig Lachtaín Naofa following Requiem Mass celebrated by an tAthair Joe. Helena from the Mission Team provided wonderful music and hymns. Symapthy is extended to his daughters Louise and Donna, sisters Agnes Imelda and Antoinette, son-in-law Tony, treasured grandchildren Robson, Matthew and Caoimhe and extended family. Kilcorney-Dromtariffe

Heartbreak for Junior footballers

A trojan effort but our footballers bowed our after extra time in Mallow last Sunday. An early Beaufort goal was replied to with a Daniel O Keeffe point. Beaufort added again from play with replies from O Keeffe. Seamus O Sullvan moved to full forward and rewarded the move with an equalising Dromtarriffe goal. Points were added by Shane Collins and O'Keeffe before O Sullivan added his second goal and left Dromtarriffe 2.6 to 1.3 up at half time.

Despite an opener for Dromtarriffe Beaufort got 1.4 without reply and maybe only for some fantastic defensive play especially from Sean Howard, Jack Murphy, Conor O Callaghan and Tomas Howard their chances may have done more damage. O Callaghan was also instrumental driving forward as was Denis O Donoghue and Evan Murphy. Points to O Keeffe, O Callaghan & O Donoghue in the second half which found the full time whistle 2.11 a piece and extra time.

With tired legs and aching bodies our players fought and harrassed throughout the extra time periods however only 2 points were registered by O Keeffe & O Callaghan many going just wide of the target, and then the final whistle blew as the minimum separated the teams. Our gratitude to our players and management teams for a memorable 2018.
