Pride of Place
If anyone was wondering exactly what Community Spirit means then the Pearse Memorial Hall was the place to be on Thursday morning last.
The occasion was the visit of the national judges in the Pride of Place competition where Boherbue have been nominated by Cork County Council for an award relating in particular to the footpath project from the village to the cemetery.
Over 120 were in attendance including Cllr Bernard Moynihan, who was deputising for the Lord Mayor and who was also deeply involved in the success of the project itself.
Also present were other public representatives plus members from Cork County Council, IRD Duhallow and all the various clubs and organisations locally plus the Co-op.
The spirit of the occasion was truly uplifting and one could sense it was a special day in the life of the parish with music and dancing to entertain the attendance as they gathered with a wonder in their eye - it was new.
Community Council chairman Peadar O'Callaghan acted as MC while Tidy Towns chairman Michael Cronin gave a presentation that in itself was worthy of an award.
It may have only been 9.30 a.m. in the morning but everyone present was wide awake and proud to be part of such a success story.
The work of the Development and Tidy Towns groups over the years is there for all to see - Boherbue is now a better place thanks to the labours and forward thinking of so many volunteers.
Best of luck in the competition - roll on November with the result.
Congratulations to Tomas O'Connor, who partnered Ian Dunning from Conna recently and were crowned Munster under-13 one wall champions with a final win over Clare at Spa, Killarney.
Next weekend the club will have a big representation at the one wall all-Irelands which will be played in Breaffy, Co Mayo. Best of luck, everyone.
